Z not thrilled over bench time - Finnan

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
During Game 4, I distinctly remember the commentators talking about how MB asked Z if he wanted to go in that late in the game....I guess they were wrong, or Z's just complaining now about it.

Also, he needs to realize...he's not our starting 14 ppg 7rpg guy from last year and before; he's a back-up center now and the main reason we have Shaq is for the playoffs. Jamison's better, and Varejao is much more valuable and 10x better on defense. All three of them will get the bulk of the big man minutes. The rest of the minutes will be distributed depending on the matchup. It was obvious we needed more Hickson vs. the Bulls and we will need his athleticism vs. the old Celtics as well. Z needs to realize this...what happened to Z being humble and fitting his role and wanting to do what's right for the team? Stop complaining, you're old and slow, we'll use you for your length vs the Lakers and Magic...

I think J.J. Hickson has more to complain about. Everybody will get his chance(/match up) troughout the series. Don't forget the depth of this Cavaliers-team: all together.

"And I couldn't care less about Z not being thrilled about his bench time" - every single RCF member.

z needs to shut up

Shut up about what?
Stop complaining about what?
Not sure what you guys read that I didn't. Which comment did you take offense at?

"What are you going to do? You have to stay ready. It will be different matchups ahead of us with different teams."
"When your time comes, hopefully you can produce and you can help the team."
"I was stiff as hell," he said. "Coach asked me to go in. We didn't want any of the starters to get hurt. I lollygagged through the last three minutes."

This article is almost as strange as the one about Delonte getting signed to an extension this summer.

Did you even read his quotes...or just the title? :chuckles:

You beat the Celtics by running the floor. Run the floor on KG's, Sheed's, Pierce's and Ray Allen's old legs.

Z obviously knows what's going on, but I wouldn't expect him to be "thrilled" about it.

I'm going to file this away as one of the things that I'm not worried about.

I was glad Mike Brown was able to get JJ some time in this series since we will actually need him against Boston. Z on the other hand needs to start getting ready for Orlando and LA.

I'm hoping MB starts working Z back into the rotation over the next series.

I've always been a big Finnan supporter, but something has just been weird about his writing this year. It's like he's trying overly hard to be controversial or something.

He had that weird, out of left field report that Amare hated Cleveland and was pissed about being traded here, then the Delonte extension thing, and then this article where, based on those quotes you posted Max, he comes up with the title "Z not thrilled over bench time." Kind of strong words to put in someone's mouth. :dunno:

I agree with this, and when I initially read the article I thought the same thing.

It's almost like Finnan knows he's not going to be the guy that readers go to for factual Cavaliers coverage, so he basically spews tabloid quality material out there every once in a while just to get some attention.

Like you said, a lot of his work this year has painted the Cavaliers organization in the negative light. The Amar'e article was the biggest bust. Totally out of left field, using non-credible sources, and stirred a lot of controversy for something that was completely untrue.

I ignore just about anything that is written by Finnan. IMO, the guy has no credibility whatsoever. He's spewing nonsense whenever the opportunity presents itself.

The only people I pay any attention to when it comes to the Cavs is Brian Windhorst and Chris Broussard. Obviously W&G is also reliable.

Heck, Windhorst on the Reghi show yesterday said that Shaq is at "yellow alert" status right now and that he's been just waiting for signs that he's going to meltdown.

This was in regards to Shaq being unhappy with his playtime, touches, being shutout in the 4th quarters, etc.

Shaq's hopefully a lot happier today. He's got that thumb brace off, and looked a lot more like himself in the last game.

So Bob isn't the only one looking for signs that that the wheels are starting to fall off.

There was nothing in this story or in Z's quotes that made it seem he was upset or could cause problems over playing time. I actually got the impression Z understood the situation in the Bulls series.

Z is a backup C now. He's going to be needed in the playoffs for bench minutes against opposing teams with size and true C's. He's been solid in the backup role this season and has willingly accepted that role. With his current role I don't expect major production or big minutes, just decent play to help matchup with opponent's size and to help stretch the floor and draw opposing big men out to the perimeter.

WTF?

Man this playoff run hasnt gone nearly as smooth as I hoped it would...and we're not even at the 2nd round yet. :chuckles:

Finnan's not thrilled over bench time.

It would be a lot worse if the article's title was "Z thrilled to sit on bench." :chuckles:

Z's comments were actually not as bad as the title of the article made it sound. And every player who's sitting more now (Gibson, Powe, etc.) should feel the same way. I don't think Z offered any extra griping, other than his minor comments about playing in garbage time in Game 4. I don't know if there was really much of an article to be had from those comments alone.

.

I was just getting ready to say that none of Z's comments even say that he's unhappy.

He seems to be perfectly fine when he says "It will be different matchups ahead of us with different teams."
