Z not thrilled over bench time - Finnan

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was going to rant about people reading the title of an article and over-reacting, but several intelligent posters have beat me to it. All I'll say is that Z is a pro and he knows what the situation is. Being a pro, he shouldn't be happy about sitting on the bench. Also, being a pro, he hasn't gone out of his way to make a big deal out of it. Nothing new here and nothing that should be considered a problem... yet.

Shut up about what?
Stop complaining about what?
Not sure what you guys read that I didn't. Which comment did you take offense at?

"What are you going to do? You have to stay ready. It will be different matchups ahead of us with different teams."
"When your time comes, hopefully you can produce and you can help the team."
"I was stiff as hell," he said. "Coach asked me to go in. We didn't want any of the starters to get hurt. I lollygagged through the last three minutes."

This article is almost as strange as the one about Delonte getting signed to an extension this summer.

Did you even read his quotes...or just the title? :chuckles:

He acted like he was forced to go in for those last 3 minutes...like MB made him. I'm pretty sure MB asked him and Z said yes (from what I heard from the commentators). If he approved of playing those last few mins, why act like he suffered.. "I was stiff but I played through it' (paraphrase)...then to make it seem better he added in the "didn't want any starters getting hurt". I like Z and respect him but it does seem like he's sort of bitter about going from full-time starter to pretty much out of the rotation.

WTF?

Man this playoff run hasnt gone nearly as smooth as I hoped it would...and we're not even at the 2nd round yet. :chuckles:

It would have been sorted out long ago if we had everyone healthy before the playoffs started.

For the record. Finan doesnt write the title to his artlcle, thats for the editor. I think Finan showed Z to be a professional and wrote an article showing he isnt a forgoten man. The editor should be fired for turning in a headline that is no where close to the content of the article just to stir the pot.

Z's a competitive dude even in the downslope of his career. Good for him.

Boy; could we have a bit more drama and controversy and the stirring of the pot in these playoffs? WTF is going on? Get a grip. It seems to me the Cleveland writers are the people doing the most harm this year.... and that does include Windy. Give it a break already. STOP injecting thoughts and feelings about Cavs players that are not there.

Do we want to win this year or not? Start acting like it please.

You could write this article about several players on the Cavs bench right now. JJ Hickson could have had the same complaints the first few games in the chicago series. He was the starter for the whole year for petesakes! Boobie went from starting to not playing too. Moon has had his share of DNP-CD.

We can't play 10 guys in the playoffs and get everyone into a rhythm. The goal is the championship.

Next season though we will need to make some trades in the offseason, and sort of condense our roster a little bit. We don't need what...6 bigs of starting quality? We also have too many little guards who do roughly the same thing.

But for now the goal is the title. So it's put up or shut up time.

Actually, the commentators during the game said that is the way a vet should be approached at that point in a game. They said absolutely nothing to indicate that they heard the exchange between MB and Z. And as far as the quotes from Z... I guess we're just reading them from different perspectives. I didn't get any bitterness out of those quotes at all. It's impossible to know what kind of tone the statements were made with by reading. We would need to actually hear Z speak the words to get a better sense of his mindset. Regardless, I'm still not worried about it.

I agree that Finnan doesn't write the article's title. But he did write the article's first sentence:

"Cavaliers center Zydrunas Ilgauskas doesn't appear to be thrilled with his lack of playing time in the first-round series."

For an editor to change the headline to "not thrilled" is not a big leap. "Z doesn't appear to be thrilled..." is cumbersome.

Seems to me that Finnan either didn't report the whole story (Z may have said something off the record) or he made a non-story into a story.

Either way, it will blow over.

I see your point, just stating the headline made it alot worse.

I didn't think Z was complaining at all..

He in my opinion didn't want to come in but MB brought him in, I don't think he cares that much.

IMO,he has looked like he`s been "lollygagging" for a few years.

So if Z and Shaq are unhappy, who is the Cavs center next year?

If they are happy, who is the Cavs center next year?I hope neither one of them,at least as the starter. It is time for Z to get the rocking chair out, period.
