He's in the UK.. Came out on Friday there.

There's already a decent bootleg of the movie floating around in the usual places..
I figured as much. It's one of the few franchises I'll pay to see.

Rewatching "warrior"..

I dont know much religion or mythology, but isnt this basically a combination of Cain and abel meets "rescue the father from the belly of the whale"?

Not familiar with the source material. Is this a faithful representation?

No. It honestly looks like they're trying to condense six really long books (there are seven Dark Tower books, but one is a prequel that consists of Roland, the main character, telling a story from his youth to his companions) into one movie, which is probably the worst idea ever.

Well, maybe not as bad as trying to turn The Hobbit into three six hour long movies when the book is like forty pages long, but close.

Never a good strategy. Batman vs. Superman (sorry @gourimoko, I can't even sit through it) suffered from this rush to franchise as well. Ugh. Jackson just got greedy with The Hobbit. It could have been two very successful and well received films.

I agree, completely.. I do think the movie suffered as has the entire DC cinematic universe.

Looks like westworld/book of eli meets firestarter. Throw in some Narnia and stranger things if youd like.

I believe it is aiming to be an adaptation and sequel simultaneously which sounds like a difficult thing to do

Should I see gotg v2 without seeing the first?

The series isn't really like Westworld at all. Book of Eli would be a decent comparison, at least for the western portions.

Essentially, all of Stephen King's books are supposed to take place within the same universe, although many take place in different worlds. The Dark Tower is at the center of all of them, and if it is destroyed, so will all of the worlds that connect to it. As such, The Dark Tower series brings in characters from a variety of King's books, and references many other works as well.

Roland, played by Idris Elba, is from one of the many worlds, and his world is dying. He's on a quest to find the Dark Tower, and he's also pursuing the Man in Black. The Man in Black, coincidentally, is Randall Flagg, who has appeared in numerous King works, both under that name and others. The most notable is probably The Stand, where he is the antagonist.

I just don't really see any way the movie will do the series justice, although to be fair the series did kind of fall apart after the fourth book. I credit this as a part of King's rush to finish the series after he almost died in a car crash and was worried that he wouldn't live to finish it (a fear George RR Martin could use a bit more of). Prior to the accident, King essentially wrote the series as it came to him, but he pumped out the last three novels in a short amount of time. I liked the ending a lot more than most, though.

Supposedly the film is a sequel of sorts to the series, although this would only really make any sense to someone who has finished the series. For anyone else, it might as well be a straight adaptation. It also looks like they are cutting a lot of characters. In the book, Roland's group consisted of Jake, the kid from the trailer, along with Eddie, Susannah, and Oy (which is kind of like a raccoon/dog hybrid or something...been a while since I've read the series). Granted, Jake is the only one of the four who appears in the first book, but given that the film appears to adapt at least the first three and possibly the whole series, I'm not sure what the fuck they're going to do.

GOTG Vol. 2: 8.5/10.0

Funny as the first. Interesting plot. Surprising amount of depth and actual emotional moments.

Make sure to stick around. There are five pre-credit/post-credit scenes.
