Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
While I agree this was a weakness of TFA, I think they can make it a strength of Episode 8. He learns how to channel his extremely high, raw force abilities and truly becomes a menacing villain.

Think LeBron in Miami. Kylo just lost to Mavs because he was super arrogant. He now needs to go to Boston and have his own game 6 to unlock everything.

Kylo has to come out "on top" in VIII or his character was a total waste, IMO.

Agreed.

I am thinking he kills Luke.

From a story perspective I have come to accept the death of Han Solo, though I hated it when I first saw it in theaters. They took the happy ending of Jedi and turned my favorite heroes' lives into tragedies.

If they have that little twerp kill Luke I'll probably walk out of the theater. Kylo Ren isn't a bad character, I think his story is/can be interesting, but if they seriously just spend a bunch of time here killing off original cast members to manipulate the audience's emotions then I'm fucking out.

I prefer to look at it from a pro wrestling POV.

When the aging wrestler is leaving the business, he lets a young wrestler beat him which legitimizes the younger wrestler. It's Luke job to get Kylo over now.

Plus, when Rey finally kills him in ep 9, it'll mean more.

But they already used Han for just that.

And no offense, but fuck wrestling, this is Star Wars and I have my own sentimental hang-ups!

If the best they can come up with, after already using Han to legitimize his character, is to have him kill Luke too, then they will have fucked up IMO. I see what you're getting at, but it feels lazy and manipulative.

Certainly a fair point on it being manipulative.

Part of the reason I am for it is the Han Solo death seems a little botched to me. Doesn't really have the emotional impact it should, mostly because of the flaws of TFA. Having Luke die heroically at the end of a well made movie would have the impact Han's death didn't (for me anyways).

I doubt he kills Luke. If u think about it Darth Vader is no more, Han Solos character is killed, Leia is dead in real life (In hindsight they should have killed Leia in the movie) so I dont think we will be seeing anymore of her in part 9. This leaves Luke as the only alpha character from the original star wars (I know Chewie, R2 and c3po are alive but i am only counting characters who are major enough to pull ll crowds). If Luke is dead then the original heroes are gone. Nostalgia wont be a reason for a lot of people to come and also I dont think any of the new characters are charismatic enough to warrant a huge fan following, meaning $$$ wasted and Disney wont like it.

How about this ? Ren shaves all the Ewoks and roasts them on a fire-pit as he pours barbecue sauce over their bodies and reveals the secret to why he turned to the dark side of the force...

How dare you diss Lando like that!

Good point, though.

Fuck wrestling? Fuck you bro. But in all seriousness. If they put Kylo over Han and Luke I'm gonna be pissed.

If the movies continue to mimic the original trilogy, i would be surprised if Luke doesn't die at the hands of Kylo.

I'd say its safe to assume that Luke is going to teach the ways of the force to Rey in a mentorship role. Who was Luke's mentor? Obi-Wan. Who killed Obi-Wan? Vader.

Lazy storytelling? Yes. Impactful event for Star Wars fans, new and old? Double Yes.

I'd prefer a more creative approach...there's a lot you can work with considering Kylo and Luke are blood-related. Perhaps in Luke's feeble state he is easily manipulated by the dark side and acts as a villain that Rey must save in some capacity.

I am hoping it's just not a retread of plot points established in the original trilogy.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

As Luke is training Rey, she gets a premonition about Kylo doing something evil. Luke tells her not to go, just like Yoda/Obi-Wan did in ESB. She goes anyway, just like Luke did. However, Luke chases after her and saves Rey but is fatally injured in the process. His final words reveal to Rey what her lineage is.
