Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree 100%, but we are in the minority. Most people didn't realize that wasn't really Peter Cushing. Maybe because I had heard rumors they were going to CGI him, and the fact I knew he died in the 90s, I knew it wasn't him before we even saw his face. But most people loved it.

Well, the choice was CGI him, or leave him out altogether. I personally really appreciated the effort to maintain continuity, and the coolness of the initial shots of him outweighed (for me) the negatives of the CGI. I actually thought Leia was worse - very plastic-y.

Rogue One was good. Good enough that I saw it twice. I think it's a better Star Wars film than The Force Awakens. Hopefully The Last Jedi takes notes.

Yeah, I wouldn't dock points or anything for it, but I just found it really noticeable. Of course, I knew going in that he was CGI, so that may have factored in. I can't say how I'd have reacted if I went in not knowing. Still, I can forgive them on this one because, obviously, the dude died. You either recast him, replace him, or put him in as CGI. The latter maintains consistency, so I'm fine with it.

I probably would have had more issue with Leia if she'd been around longer, but she was basically in one shot so I didn't find it to be all that glaring.

I think it was a better film in every way than Force Awakens. Better characters. Better action scenes. Better visuals. Better (and original) story. Better comedic relief. Just overall better. I thought Abrams did a good job of making a movie that looked and felt like Star Wars, but the movie itself wasn't very good. Better than the prequels, but that's not really a compliment. You could film Mark Hamill shitting on a plate for two hours and it'd be about as good as Phantom Menace.

Yeah, it was better than The Force Awakens as a Star Wars film and just as a film itself. I'm the only guy on here that actually liked TFA so I'm not getting into another argument. I just liked Rogue One more.

I thought The Force Awakens was fine. It did what it needed to, which was re-launch Star Wars without totally shitting its pants. It wasn't a great movie, but it wasn't an abomination like the prequels either. I think it would have benefited from a more original story, but I think most would agree with that sentiment.

Looking back, I think my main issue with the film is that Adam Driver just seems horribly miscast. I don't buy the guy as a credible antagonist at all, at least not in the role of badass evil Jedi. They needed someone with a bit more gravitas in that spot.

I'll be honest, I agree with everything in this post even though I enjoyed the film. My thing with the casting of Kylo Ren is I tried to picture who I think would be good for that role, or even what sort of personality/look they should have gone with in an actor, and I just can't nail it down. I can't.

I really don't know who they could have cast that would have satisfied me.

Oh well. If Driver just kept the mask and costume on it'd be fine, but they obviously intend for him to be a big character so that won't happen.

Yeah, I don't know who they could have cast either, but surely there had to be people out there who look more like a credible bad guy than Driver. He just looks like a fucking nerd and it's impossible to buy him as this bad ass Sith. You're probably right that, if he kept the mask on all the time, it wouldn't have been an issue, but the second he takes it off it ruins things.

I want to see Benicio del Toro as some badass sith motherfucker in the new film, but I heard he's some politician or some shit.

Give him time. He is supposed to be a bit whiney in TFA. He has yet to complete all his Sith training. Driver definitely has the acting chops.

Was thinking the same....

Seems like a waste.

Where did you read this?

A quality version popped up on Exodus...watched it again tonight. Still really good!

Palpatine was a politician.
