The thing is, it's FAR from certain that his floor is a double/double athletic big. If it was, he'd be #2/#1a on everyone's big board.

I don't think so... or else wouldn't we be able to trade Andy for one of the top picks in the draft? You always hope for more - a lot more - that's why you play the draft game.

The problem with Drummond is that both his upside and his downside are in doubt .. but hey, he's still got a great chance to go top-5.

What? No -- that comparison doesn't apply.

Andy's value has to do with a lot more than his ability to put up double/double stat lines -- like his ability to stay healthy, and his advancing age. If he was younger, and didn't have health issues (which is questionable in terms of how much of an issue they are in actuality), then I would bet that we would definitely be able to trade him for a lottery pick. And who knows, maybe we'll be able to get Portland to bite on Andy for #11 this year regardless.

Like I said, Drummond doesn't have a guaranteed double/double floor -- if he did, he'd be the clear #2 overall pick with his size and athleticism. And who knows, maybe CHA or WASH or CLE will decide that a double/double is in fact his floor, but that seems very much in doubt right now.

Except a #11 pick is a far far cry from a #1 or a #2 pick.

Well, nobody gets a guarantee so it's moot, but my point here is there are all types of double-doubles some that come with solid D, some that don't, some that come from ball hogging, some from the lack of other legitimate rebounders, some from a great PG, etc, etc. Let alone the fact that a double-double covers the range from 10 & 10 up to 99 & 99.

When you have the #1 or #2 pick in a draft you want a superstar. Charlotte got a shot of massive depression because nobody is convinced there is one of those besides perhaps Davis in this draft.

Agree. He will be Hickson 2.0. Skills are there, but nothing between the ears. He'll definitely show flashes, but will never be consistent (IMO).

Can you imagine the FT shooting with him and Thompson manning the 4/5. :puke:

I asked this earlier, so I'm sorry if it's already been answered, but I didn't see it -

Is Drummond's intelligence a question? I keep seeing people make comparisons to Hickson, but my impression was that Drummond was a smart kid and very humble, just lacked in being aggressive.

To me, there is a HUGE difference in a guy that is just never going to be smart enough to understand a system, and a guy that needs to be more assertive.

Which is why I listed it as worst case scenario that could potentially still happen. You're comparison didn't work.

My point still stands. Given his immense potential, if Drummond's floor was a double/double (regardless of how he gets it), he'd be the clear #2 (on big boards) -- whether or not CHA would pick him though is an entirely different question. Size and athleticism always get priority all other things being equal.

Since Drummond's potential floor is MUCH lower than a double/double, he's potentially not even a top 5 pick.

He's a computer nerd.

He's a computer nerd.

Hate that I have to ask this - but are you being sarcastic or is that true? I've actually tried to search around a bit, but haven't found anything in regards to his intelligence.

Was that your point? You seemed to be arguing other things.

But hey ... if that's what you meant, then I agree. If a GM felt there was zero risk taking Drummond, then with his great upside, he'd be a no brainer at #2 and even a candidate for #1.

As it is, he's still a viable candidate at #2 - all depending on each GM's aversion to risk.

Yes, some people keep harping on it as if it's a fact ... but I've seen nothing to actually support it. That he appears non-aggressive on the court has been interpreted to mean various things by various people, but it's just conjecture.

My original post was reponding to someone else who said that they were sure Drummond was at minimum going to be a double/double guy.

That was the context of my post, and I quoted him as well.

I probably wasn't as clear as that last post.

I think he's being serious. I remember watching a video interview of Drummond, perhaps it was an old DraftExpress one, in which he says his goal is to become a computer engineer, I believe.

He has some interest apparently, said he was considering declaring it as his major next year. I'm not sure we should draw conclusions from that, however.

His floors is as a double double computer nerd, one desktop one laptop both twin booting linux. Theres just no way he can't with his athleticism
