KWame 2.0 or future All-star?

One of the biggest enigmas in the draft.

Discuss...

well now we know four of the top 5 on the cavs draft board.

I think where he lands will determine his career trajectory. This is a guy who has never really had to work hard at improving his skills because he's been so physically dominant at every level below college. He needs to be surrounded by hard-working teammates and a coaching staff fully committed to him as a player, but even then I'm not sure he'll ever reach what he's capable of. I'm still not sure of how much he loves the game and how much he really wants to win, and those are scary questions to have about a top 5 pick.

I'd rather just draft Davis and let some other GM get fired. I don't know what the wuck they've been doing with Drummond at UConn, but it doesn't look that impressive. I'm thinking that, if Drummond comes here, he's going to improve by leaps and bounds, but I'd still rather not take the risk if there's the chance at getting Davis or MKG. After those two and PERHAPS Beal/Lamb, I might take a swing a Drummond.

If Kwame had the hands and athleticism of Drummond he wouldn't have been a bust.

He strikes me as someone who is strictly in it for the money.

This guy scares the hell out of me. Obviously, he has massive potential, but I'm not sure I have ever seen a player of his size and talent spend so much time being invisible on the offensive side of the court. I tuned in to Connecticut games specifically to watch he and Lamb and sometimes it took me a good while to deduce whether or not Drummond was even playing in the game.

I will say this, though... As the draft nears and these guys go through the combine and personal workouts, his stock will skyrocket once again and I doubt we will get him without a Top 3 pick (and I don't want him that high). Right now, we are still a little too close to his meek effort against Iowa State (2 points, 3 rebounds in 26 minutes). There will be a really bad team whose GM and coach believe that they can fix whatever wasn't there for Andre in 2012. I just hope it isn't us.

At worse he can be a big body filling the center role and at best he can be the next Dwight Howard. Either way he'll be in the NBA for awhile on size and athleticism alone. I hope we can get him.

I love the kid's potential, and he's got Dwight / Bynum qualities in him somewhere. I also remember reading that he's mostly got his head on straight and is willing to work, similar qualities we heard about Kyrie and Tristan, both of which proved completely true.

His raw offense is a little nerve wracking, but as far as being NBA ready, his defense seems off the charts as well as his offensive rebounding and that will help him make an immediate impact while he learns to improve offensively. A Drummond / Thompson front court could potentially be one of the best in the NBA defensively. Like, 2008 Celtics good eventually.

Also, I saw this on Draft Express which gave me a lot of hope:

One part of his game which may have more potential than we've seen thus far is as a pick and roll finisher. The pick and roll is not a major part of UConn's offense, and when their guards do run it, they rarely do so looking to pass. With the superior spacing NBA guards enjoy due to the deeper 3-point line, this is a much bigger part of most teams' offense, and Drummond seemingly possesses ideal tools to benefit from that.

Wonder if we have a point guard on this team who runs a pretty good pick n roll? :king: Just watching what Kyrie did with that turd Hollins makes me thing Kyrie could average 10 assists a game off lobs to Drummond :chuckles:

Problem is, so much of this is potential and not actual proven production yet, so it'd be really risky. If we go for him, I'd hope it would involve something more like keeping our current highest lotto pick, and then moving maybe the Lakers & Hornets pick, plus a player or two like Andy, to get him. He'd make me nervous as our only lotto pick.

Do we know if he's going to declare or not? He better...

That would make the top 5: Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Thomas Robinson, Brad Beal, and Andre Drummond. I'd be happy with any of those.

Well considering he went to college a year early, its hard to rate his freshman year. I'd take him if MKG,Davis,Barnes, and Beal are all gone. He would thrive with Kyrie and Scott. He would get a ton of open looks.

If Kyrie could make Hollins look serviceable offensively dont you think he could do the same for Drummond? That high pick and roll game that Kyrie likes to run would be epic with him being able to throw high lob oops to a guy who can jump, catch the ball, and finish with authority. He still has a lot of growing in to his body to do, but has all the tools you look for in a young big. The college game is just not a good fit for so many different players and Andre is at the top of the list.

Drummond has a ton of potential offensively, but is already pretty potent defensively. Once he learns the game more, and adds some more strength he could be an absolute monster in the right situation. Fortunately for us we have one of those right situation's with a stud rookie PG, a strong coach, and an organization that has learned how to groom young superstars.

Filling the 1 and the 5, the two hardest positions to fill, in back to back drafts would be such a ridiculously huge step for this team.

Right now my rankings have Drummond right behind Davis and basically tied in second with MKG. The potential is just ridiculous with this guy.

1. Anthony Davis
2a. MKG
2b. Andre Drummond
