Varejao is an excellent player to have if you only want him for half a season. So if Houston wants a playoff caliber player who is going to guarantee them a lot of rebounds and defense then they know they made a wise move in Varejao. The sticky point is they need to use him wisely so that he does not get injured ... meaning save him for the playoffs and a few games here and there.

Varejao is ideal as a first big man off the bench, who can bring energy, hustle, defense, & rebounding to the game. Playing starter minutes increases his likelihood of sustaining an injury.

I've seen nothing to indicate that Houston has any interest in trading for Varejao. Actually, I've heard they're trying to move up in the draft for Andre Drummond.

I don't want any post editing when he wins ROY!

Pretty sure you're not going to have to worry about that. Even if he becomes what some people think he can, I'm certain we won't see enough of that guy in his first year to win it with a draft class like this.

Positives to taking Drummond:

- Your big will take a long time to develop. It's better to draft him early in the rebuilding process.
- We might not have the opportunity to draft a big with Drummond's physical attributes ever again.

Negatives to taking Drummond:
- Lots of questions. Does he have the desire/mindset to play well on the next level? Does he have the work ethic to continue to improve, specifically in the post with his back to the basket? Is he capable of playing good basketball? What the heck happened last year at UConn?
- He probably isn't the most talented player available at our selection

What's lost in all this is Detroit got their twin towers.....that's freaking great for the central division!

Pretty good complement to monroe. Drummond can do the garbage work, and monroe can carry the offense til drummond developes.

Kind of nervous about the Pistons landing Drummond. They were VERY lucky to have him fall to 9. Definitely worth the risk at that point in the draft. Him and Monroe have potential to be VERY VERY good.

Monroe and Drummond is gonna be rough if Drummond finds an offensive game. Defense is gonna be tough.

Detroit did very well with picks outside the top 5. Monroe @7, Knight @8, and now Drummond @9.. really not looking forward to that front line developing.

Did you forget a /sarcasm tag?

Games against Detroit and Washington will certainly be a lot more interesting.

Don't know why we should be concerned about a Monroe/Drummond combo. Reading some things we should expect a Thompson/Zeller combo to dominate the league for the next decade.:D

Yep, the Pistons got themselves two beasts on the low block now. Potentially the new Bad Boyz.

I don't think Drummond will ever be a good offensive player, but he is a great fit in Detroit where his strengths can be exploited. That said, I think Zeller came into the same situation in Cleveland, but with his offensive skills leading him.

I wouldn't be surprised the Cavs and Pistons aren't battling it out for the eastern conference again very soon.

All depends how Drummond develops, but our guys could more than hold their own ... and probably will in the short term while we have Andy.

Zeller is going to be a positional defender who'll take a charge if someone tries to muscle him or drive on him. TT can wreck havoc on the weakside, while neutralizing his own guy. He can use his quicks to get past Monroe while Zeller pulls Drummond out of the paint.

The fit really is important.

With the changes that the league will be making to charges, and the likely extension of the no-charge circle under the hoop, I sure hope that we aren't counting on Zeller taking charges as the key to his defense.
