The Cavaliers coaching and player development staff isn't getting paid to make things easier on themselves, though.

They need to be able to identify players they can teach, and then teach them, support them, and whatever else they can possibly do to justify making someone a multi-millionaire. Get the best bang for the buck.

I'm sure JJ could be taught - that's not a very high bar and he did improve quite a bit in certain areas ... but some players just don't have a feel for what's going on around them. It shouldn't be that hard to identify which players can catch on to new approaches and have decent court awareness.

Or you can buy the ready-made-brownie mix and just pop it in the oven. It still tastes good, but you're not going to win any awards with that approach.

Still don't think Drummond is "dumb." Think he lacks experience and has lacked quality coaching, especially big men coaching.

Hopefully the Cavs will continue to show improvement and won't be drafting high much longer. That also means the opportunities to draft a quality C won't be there as often since they are taken high. When one is there you better seriously consider drafting him. We passed up the chance last year and sooner or later you need to fill what is a big hole long term.
That being said I still put MKG and Beal above him.

You're continuing to be overly simplistic.

So the only players who develop into superstar are the one's who are difficult to develop?

And the players that are easy to develop won't be superstars?

I disagree. The best players are both easy to develop, and they have potential.

I totally agree. We passed on JV for TT last year. You only get so many opportunities to draft a center oprospect of significance.

2) Drummond has given some scouts the impression that he doesn't truly understand the areas where he's weak. Yes, Drummond says things in front of the cameras that he's been coached to say, but Drummond thinks he's good as some things when he's not and just doesn't even see other parts of the game. It's hard to get a player to work on his weaknesses if he doesn't understand how he's weak in those areas or even what those areas are.

Perhaps an even greater problem is that he may not even want to be the type of player is needs to be. According to Chad Ford, he compared his game to Durant's. I'm less concerend with his delusion of grandeur than his apparent belief that he's supposed to play like Durant. Durant is a finesse guy, and for Drummond to ever reach anything close to his potential, he has to accept that he must be a power player. If he doesn't really have the desire to bang, and to take advantage of his physical strength, then I don't really see how you put that in someone who doesn't naturally have it.

If he's a finesse guy at heart, it won't work.

Though I agree with the base sentiment, Drummond was saying who his favorite player is, not who he thinks he plays like. This quote seems to get taken out of context by Chad ford.

Drummond is also an amare fan. I think Beal and Gilchrist will be too good to pass up at 4 to think about drummond. Gilchrist could fall quite a bit if the cavs pass on him. Sacramento sure doesn't need him.

Sac needs a player like Gilchrist

Gilchrist gives them the ability to move one or two of Thorton, Garcia, Evans or Salmons with out thinking twice. I would think they would move Evans out of all those names since he would bring the best return

The Kings don't have any one one that roster that does the things Gilchrist does best.

In the continuing draft circuit, I'm told Kansas F Thomas Robinson had his way w/ UConn C Andre Drummond in a Cleveland workout today (No.2)

I dont like one bit of that.

FWIW, here is UCONN coach Jim Calhoun's take on Drummond:

3. UConn coach Jim Calhoun said that Andre Drummond should be the second player selected in the NBA draft since he has the potential to be the second-most productive player outside of Anthony Davis. “You’re going to get a great athlete for his size at 6-9, 279 pounds and a great kid,’’ Calhoun said. “The one thing you don’t have to do any work on is his character. Three or four years down the road you’ll see Andre’s incredible potential.’’ Drummond likely starts at No. 5 Sacramento with No. 6 Portland also a likely scenario. He could go higher. But he is almost certainly not going to fall below No. 7 Golden State.

As most of us know, the Cavaliers place a great emphasis on character in evaluating which players to bring into the program. I can't help, but think that Drummond's 'great character' only adds to his intrigue.

I dont like one bit of that.

Really? I would have expected this....I'm sure Okafor probably would have dominated Howard in 2004 had they worked out against each other. Obviously robinson is going to be better this year and next, 3-5 years down the road is what the decision has to be based of.

You also have to consider the source, especially if it's coming from Robinson's camp. Robinson has a two year head start on Drummond, so he should be the better player, at this point.
