Cavs/Bucks and Ilyasova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

Well....Jeff Green's new deal is said to be in the "neighborhood" of 4 years and $40 million.

If that is true, Ilyasova's price will likely go up.

My issue is IF the Cavs do sign Ilyasova without ever making a serious push at Batum for only a LITTLE (in NBA terms) more money...how does that make sense?

Batum at 4 years and $45 million at age 23 doesn't make sense for the Cavs this offseason, but Ilyasova at 4 years and $40 million at age 25(maybe...:dunno:) does?

So disagreeing with something and backing it up with hard FACTS is now "trolling"??

I'm not sure you're picture backs up your argument as much as you think it does.

If anything it shows some similiarities between Charlie V and Ersan.

What would be interesting is if you also put their career stats side by side to see if Charlie V also had a "breakout" season right before he was about to become a free agent.

Agree batum would be a better pickup, dont agree tristan played poorly. I dont think Tristan will ever be a complete player, but i do think he can be a stud on defense and adequate on offense.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

You can never rule out contract year effects but there is no doubt that Ilyasova had a much better comparable year to CV

His PER was 10% higher then CV's while his usage rate was a whopping 30% lower. In short, he put up better production while also being much more efficient (mostly due to his TS% and RbR were both higher then CV's).

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

If you'd like to address my points, go ahead, but I'm not people. And I won't be bitching if that happens. I of course don't think things will work out that way, either, though, which forms the basis of my opinions.

If I'm the people of which you speak, I'll let you know that I don't think trade opportunities and perfect draft picks will fall into Cleveland's lap, nor did I bring up the Clippers pick as some sort of predictor of future luck; it was only an example of opportunity, action, and luck coming together perfectly. Opportunity and luck are out of the FO's control, but ability to take action is not.

Cleveland has never won an NBA championship. It goes without saying (which makes me dumb for saying it) that it's a hard thing to accomplish. The Cavs don't need to make good decisions in order to do it; they need to make absolutely excellent decisions with fortune on their side.

I find it highly unlikely that either Ilyasova or Batum end up the piece that puts this team over the top. I find it hard to believe that either of them even do anything at such a high level that it can't be replicated through some cheaper means. What would make us a contender is another elite level, All-NBA level talent. I want the Cavs to retain ABSOLUTE flexibility until they find that. Without that, nothing else matters. It's the only goal I care about until it's attained. It's not easy and it may never happen, but if/when it does, I'll be right with you hoping Grant "stops sitting on his hands" or "pulls the trigger" to sign Ilyasova or Batum or whatever their names will end up being when we need to fill out the rest of the roster with able-bodied, expendable role-players.

and where do you find these all-nba elite players? you certainly don't acquire them via trade. you don't get them in free agency unless you're one of 4 or 5 select markets. you get them in the top portion of the draft, if you're extremely lucky. since the cavs are no longer going to picking in that area, they have to hope the guys they got in that portion of the draft live up to that billing.

by the by, dallas just won an nba title with only one elite all-nba caliber player and a bunch of very good complimentary pieces.

No...you are right...and I agree. I didn't say Ilyasova's year wasn't better....it was.

What I said was there are some similarities.

Batum and Ilyasova are 2 different situations. Batum might want to leave Portland but he is restricted and Paul Allen has already stated the Blazers will match any offer. The Cavs are smart to avoid getting into a bidding war with crazy Kahn and Paul Allen.

OTH Ilyasova is unrestricted and apparently wants to leave Milwuakee. The Bucks are overloaded with PF's and just drafted another one last week. Their payroll is also bloated. It just seems like an opportunity for the Cavs to possibly 'steal' a good talent from a division foe as long as another team doesn't step in and offer a huge contract. From what I have read the Raptors and Nets were also interested in Ilyasova but have already spent their capspace on other players.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

My take on Ilyasova is the same as my take on Batum. Thouh I do like Ilyasova more as a player than I like Batum, and I like that he'd be a little cheaper, ultimately I still don't think it's the right time or right move for us.

Old school rep says Ilyasova never meets with the Cavs.

Whats the agent going to say "yeah they dont really have an interest we just going there to check out the new casino"

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

Charlie V's career PER MINUTE numbers have been pretty steady. He did peak in USG% during his contract year and hence his his FGA, PPG, and PER also peaked.

It's hard to believe he got so many minutes under Scott Skiles, but then again I never could understand why Drew Gooden got so many minutes under Mike Brown.

in before the title is changed to "Ilyasova not seriously interested in Cavs."

Now that the Sixers suddenly have capspace after amnestying Brand, how long will it take for the agent to claim Philly also has interest? :chuckles:

I don't think the Cavs are going to make the offer that Ilyasova is looking for. Supposedly he wants something north of 4 years, $40 mil.

Looks like we get to find out if Kevin Jones can play the stretch 4 role.

Re: Ilyasova to visit Cavs this week

Reports that he is upset with the buck initial offer...he could be looking for more than 4yr 40 lol

These rumours?
Gery Woelfel of the Journal Times wrote Thursday that Ersan Ilyasova "wasn't particularly content in Milwaukee last season, and would sign with another team that made a comparable or better offer than the Bucks."
Woelful's sources said that Ilyasova is looking for $10 million per year, and the Bucks have offered between $7-8 million per year. The contentedness issue is not surprising, as Ilyasova was in the news for being unhappy at times during last season. His agent added once again that he was in talks with multiple teams and at least one overseas, and that he expected a decision to be made in the "next 10 days." Jul 5 - 9:57 PM

Ersan can go Buck himself.
