Sterling surrenders control of Clippers to Shelly (pg 35)

If they force him to sell, the entire team gets sold, according to the NBA constitution. Also, Shelly Sterling was the one that did all the dirty work for Donald and has plenty of her own lawsuits. I don't know why people say she's his "estranged" wife. They go to Clippers games, where they'd sit together, across from V. Stiviano, and TMZ even caught them right after all this happened and she was yelling at them defending Donald. There are no innocents between the two.

Now she's filing for divorce, which will allow her to either do it quickly and the courts award her whole control of the team, or they can hold it up in courts for years, however, all their assets would be frozen, which would not allow the NBA to sell the team until they settle.

They're all assholes.

If that happens, I hope the NBA is ready for an even bigger legal battle that they will already be in. Sterling isn't going to go away quietly and nor should he. This is a very slippery slope that they'd be entering if the league could simply force an owner out.

if a McDonald's franchise owner embarrassed McDonalds like this, don't you think McDonalds could take away their franchise?

Yes but they keep keep most of their contracts. building and equipment. they just have to rename the business and changer their mini from mcmuffin to muffin for example.

Theres also a matter of Trademark rights.

Even with selling the team the owner can choose to keep its trademarks and this is really nasty litigation.

Dissolution of the franchise itself may be the NBA's last option.

In essence the Clippers would be no more and they would probably have to change the name and logo as well.

So it looks like Cuban is now getting some major flack for the following:
“If I see a black kid in a hoodie at night on the same side of the street, I’m probably going to walk to the other side of the street,” Cuban said at the GrowCo business conference in Dallas on Wednesday.

“If I see anybody that looks threatening, and I try not to, but part of me takes into account race and gender and image,” he said. “I’m prejudiced. Other than for safety issues, I try to always catch my prejudices and be very self-aware.”

I personally don't have a problem with what Cuban said, which I think is much different from what Sterling said. But I heard Cris Carter go off on him, and according to this article, so have some others as well.

Cuban just seems dead set on going down with the ship on this one, and I really have no idea why. First he commented about not taking Sterling's team away from him (which, for the record, was a perfectly reasonable opinion, just a dumb one to say out loud), and now this.

Dude just needs to shut up until this Sterling shitstorm blows over.

Donald Sterling gave the team to his wife to negotiate a sale of the team according to sources. Wow, I'm surprised he's actually agreeing to selling it.
