2015 NBA Draft Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Jalen Rose was awful, by the way. At this point, my desire for Love to stay just to stick it to Rose almost matches my desire for him to stay so the Cavs have the best possible chance at winning a title. Unbearable.

The thing is, even if Love stays Jalen won't admit he's wrong. There will be some excuse.

Boozer. Danny Green.

Danny Green wasn't good until Pop cut him twice then kicked his ass some more. If he stayed in Cleveland he would be in the NBA right now. A lot of drafting comes down to luck but also having amazing coaches. I think Blatt would be great at developing younger guys which is why it kinda sucks we didn't keep Tyus.

Can the Cavs sign sign tons of undrfated guys now? there are pretty good ones right now, let's go.

John "Hot Rod" Williams was a second round pick.

Now we've got long-time posters downrating posts...

Panties are definitely in a bind tonight...

and your panties are in a bunch over an old rating?

Do you really care that much? I can remove it if it will help you sleep better at night.

I'm tired of the debate around TT's drafting. If he were a scrub, go ahead and carry on with criticism of the pick. I might still rate it as old. But he's not. He's a highly useful player in the league that any team would love to have. Hence, old.

If you want to take a stand on the Cavs horrible drafting and player development you should start and finish with Anthony Bennett. That guy was a fucking bonafide scrub from the beginning. For that decision alone Chris Grant should be blackballed from NBA front offices.

cmon...?

The bolded is a lie, you just made that up. I never said "they should punt on the draft forever," what the fuck kind of shit is that?

I wrote a long post detailing exactly why I think the Cavs can neither scout nor develop. It was a follow-up to another post I wrote a few months back.

Nothing, because that isn't what I said, it's what you're claiming you thought I said.

Umm.. I already told you I'm not saying that at all, this is the second time I'm telling you that isn't what I said, and the second time I'm asking you why are you putting words in my mouth?

The Cavs have a pretty poor draft / development record. I also think we should have went with a trade over drafting at #24 considering we're in win-now mode and that we have a poor draft / development record.

You read into that that I am discounting the value of the draft "forever," and that the players we selected are "garbage."

I suggest you step back and re-read my post, specifically my post to you where I said I'm not down on Christmas.

What you're saying here is frankly ridiculous.

This is nonsense. Again, I'm not saying we had to move the pick with Haywood, but we certainly could have made better use of it than a Euro-stash and the two players we selected. Even if that meant trading it for a future first rounder.

You are totally missing the conditionals in my argument; why I don't know.

I don't know what you're talking about, and this has nothing to do with anything I've said.

I'm simply looking at what they've done, and I see a team not likely to use Haywood right away, but to wait until the middle of the season. Ben suggested the Cavs will likely flip Haywood into a TPE, I'm starting to see that myself.

Guy will never play in a Cavs uniform. Book it. And again, dunno why you keep mentioning Blatt; I doubt he had anything to do with this draft.

It's the one thing I hate about this board when drafts or trades happen... Everyone gets butthurt when criticisms are made.

I apologize. I misread this post has a long-term criticism:

But again, I've said for awhile, Cavs really should trade out of this draft; I know we do not have the ability to scout or develop rookie talent. So we should focus on getting in vets

Either way, I disagree with the argument that because previous FOs and coaching staffs have been bad at drafting/developing that this one can't. We probably have the best coaching staff this organization has ever had right now. Personally, I think we should wait a bit before we judge on their ability to get the best out of players.

As I said before regarding trading the pick for a future first, you can't just wish that into the universe and make it happen. A team has to want to get a player enough to give that up.

As for Haywood, I think teams looking to clear cap want to wait to see if a guy is willing to come there. If they do, then they will execute a dump like we did when LeBron became a possibility. Hence, I think we can wait a month to move him to see what happens, and then as you say get the TPE to extend our time into the season if nothing has happened.

The reason I bring up Blatt is because usually coaches are involved in the draft, e.g. Byron Scott with Waiters. Unless you are insinuating that Blatt is out the door, I don't see why he wouldn't have input on who we were taking or at the very least suggesting guys he though were good, especially Euro guys that he would be familiar with.

Anyways, I appreciate the discourse and criticism. I just get annoyed when people trash a draft before we actually get to see the guys in action. Let things play out a bit. There's no need to trash the Cavs strategy a week into the offseason.

I see your point, but it definitely seems like the Cavs never find guys lower in the draft that turn out to be good picks. Their good picks have generally been the obvious choices.

If you go and look at the top 60-90 players in the NBA, how many of them are drafted outside the top half or so of the draft?

And if they are 1. were they american? and 2. how long did it take them to contribute at an above average level? And how many different teams did they play for before they got there?

Basketball, more than any major sport, is the easiest to scout. If you have high picks, you usually get good players. When you don't, you need some talent evaluating skills and some luck.

I think too many people act as if EVERY team gets late round guys who turn out to be good. Are there exceptions? Sure but I think the exceptions cloud the reality, which is how unlikely it is for a contending team to dedicate the necessary time and resources to develop such a player (from the draft to competency). By the time some of these guys develop in to worthwhile NBA players, the franchise has missed their window or the player finally broke through but with another team. I think this years All-Star team was a good example of that.

Can the Cavs do a better job in the later rounds? Sure but most of it is just a crap shoot.
