Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What would be interesting is what if both the Blazers and the Sixers get greedy and try and milk the Cavs say for 2 2nd rounders or 1 first rounder or Kaun or something. Would Griffin then maybe consider doing some other trade, like maybe just pinching his nose and grabbing Jamal Crawford, who seems to want out of L.A.?

Why?

If I'm Philly I tell the Cavs to give me a pick or forget it. And because the Cavs have very few options out there to use as leverage, who has the stronger position? If no deal happens Philly loses out on a couple million dollars in cash. Meanwhile, the Cavs lose their last decent trade chip to improve the team. They're in the stronger position.

This is where Griffin's steely-eyed resolve comes into play. He must establish dominance.

More likely, this is where Griffin reminds them of the deal they have already arranged, and tells them that the Cavs are now ready to go ahead with it.

And its not like we're without any leverage. There is the option of just cutting him, getting the roster spot back, and saving Dan some dough. He doesn't have to make a bad deal.

  • Sir’Dominic Pointer
  • Milan MacVan (Probably will play overseas this year)
  • İlkan Karaman (likely retired)
  • Edin Bavčić (likely retired)
Cavs Receive:
  • 2016 second round draft pick from L.A. Clippers (via New Orleans) Top 55 protected -- Alonzo Gee trade [7/11/2014]
  • 2017 second round draft pick from Sacramento Top 55 protected -- Bogans to Cleveland [9/25/2014]
One or two of these crappy assets will be given up to get the TPE. The Clippers pick might land past 55, they were almost the 2 seed in the west last year. A team will do it because they'd be able to add an extra 2nd rounder to make the trade look better than what it really is if they move the pick in the future.

Like the trade.

What are they gonna do with the exceptions?

Nice to see Miller's fat, slow ass off the roster too.

Moving Miller opens up a needed roster spot as well

Hopefully we're looking at:
C: Mozgov, AV, Kaun
PF: Love, TT
SF: Lebron, Jefferson
SG: Shump, JR, Harris, Pointer
PG: Kyrie, Mo, Delly

That's 14 players leaving a spot for a mid-season trade for the exception. There's technically 2 exceptions I guess so maybe we end up moving an additional player down the road too

You forgot James Jones.

Much like we profited from NYK's cast-offs last season after their season went into the toilet because of star player/coach/front office combined dysfunction...I feel like we will attempt to do the same thing this season. We just have to find the team that goes into the season expecting to make some noise and ends up falling apart on and off the court who will want to gain flexibility to re-tool around their star player.

Last year it was the Knicks and Carmelo.

This year who knows....when I think dysfunction I think Sacramento or possibly Indiana if Paul George isn't the same and they decide to re-tool. Maybe Charlotte as well? Lots of teams are hopeful to make noise this year and a lot will fall on their face and once teams fall on their face, owners love to try and save money while they wait for ping pong balls.

I think Stephenson could potentially be a target because I think the Clippers traded for him mainly because they were able to get out from that terrible Hawes deal and it gave them insurance in case Pierce didn't end up signing.

Now that Pierce did go there, plus they signed guys like Smith and Johnson and kept JJ and Crawford and even Rivers who could all take time at the 2/3. If Stephenson proves to be cranky or no good I could see us giving him a whirl and hoping we could work our magic.

Don't Lebron and Stephenson hate each other? Either way, he doesn't seem like a good fit. Not a good shooter. Game is too similar to Shump.

I have high hopes.

"If you end up disappointed you only have yourself to bla-"

HIGH. HOPES.

Who knows what their relationship is really like at this point, but that would obviously be a problem if it is that bad. Adding another young perimeter defender is never a bad thing.

In the right situation he has proven to be a contributor on a winning team, so I could see us willing to take a chance on him especially if it's at a cheap price.
