Kyrie Irving Trade Ideas

Read Lloyd's column and search for Kyrie's post game comments. Cp3 looks more appealing despite his age. But KI can change if he wants. Not sure.

Had to go to Lloyd's blog here to find them.

1. In an effort to create better ball movement, the Cavs wrote some fascinating stats on the white board in the locker room prior to the game: They are making 27 percent of their shots without a pass, 32 percent of their shots with one pass, 40 percent of their shots following two passes and 52 percent of their shots after three passes.

...

6. Irving, however, didn’t seem overly impressed by the statistical research.

7. “I guess that’s an important stat,” Irving said. “When you have players like we do on this team, I mean, honestly, that doesn't take away my freedom or what I feel like coming over half court. I'm going to make the best decision for the team and myself, coming up and being aggressive. One pass, two passes, three passes, if we get no passes and someone hits a shot, then I mean I'm still cool with it. As long as it's in rhythm and I feel like it's a good shot, I have confidence, no matter how many passes. That's an interesting stat though.”

8. It bears repeating: the stat was written on the board in the locker room prior to the game and Lue was the one emphasizing it. Irving didn’t seem to pay much attention to it, however.

Yeah, that's concerning. :(

But like almost everyone else has said, the window is much smaller to win it all. I don't know if it's worth it or not. Kyrie could become good enough that losing LeBron in a couple years could be salvaged and wouldn't affect us heavily, but I think it's hard to replace all the skills that LeBron brings (which is almost everything). If there's a higher chance to win with Paul in the next three years than the chance to win with Irving when LeBron retires, I'd be open to the possibility.

P.S. If we won it all at least once, I'd probably be satisfied and wouldn't need a dynasty. There's no guarantee we'd become one in the future. The Pistons had their core for more than half a decade in the 2000s, but only won once to show for it. The Celtics only won once with Garnett, Pierce, and Allen. LeBron only had 2 titles in four years (despite having one of the most talented rosters). IMHO, we have no luxury or promise that we'll have a dynasty...

But whatever...

The thing is, what have we seen in the last year and a half to make us think that a Kyrie-Love combo without Lebron has any hope of winning a championship? I know Kyrie can improve but sorry, I don't see him becoming Steph Curry.

Kyrie's rookie year was 47/40/87, compare that to Steph's insane 51/45/91 this year, and Kyrie's rookie year is really eye-popping. A rookie did that?! I mean we're talking about Steph's line, which might be the most impressive set of those numbers the NBA has ever seen, and Kyrie's rookie year was kind of close?! I'd just have a hard time trading Kyrie for anyone that isn't Steph.

Kyrie's rookie year was nothing close to Steph Curry this year. You can't just look at the shooting percentages. If it was just that Curry was shooting 45% from 3 this year nobody would be that excited about him. What is special about Curry this year is his *volume* of 3 pointers - he is attempting 10.6 3 pointers a game! And he is *still* averaging 45% while shooting all those 3s, that is what is so amazing.

To give you a sense of the difference, this year Curry is MAKING 4.8 3 pointers a game. In his rookie year, Kyrie ATTEMPTED 3.6 3 pointers a game. Steph is making way more 3 pointers each game than Kyrie even tried.

Also, just as a note, Steph is also averaging more assists per game this year than Kyrie ever has in his career.

Chris Paul lebron and love... What a combo. Lebron and Paul are great defenders. Paul would also force lebron to play off ball.

Irvings comments were infuriating. He seems destined to end up a career ball hog like starbury

John Wall as well, who just signed with Klutch...

Fair enough. That was an epic rookie year. But Kyrie still has to demonstrate he can take the leap to the next level.

Frankly, I think Paul is better than Kyrie now, and I don't think the whole Kyrie package will ever improve to be better than overall Chris Paul package (who is a truly great PG), but obviously he is seven years older. So it is all about the question of winning now.

But I also think that our chance for a championship now, with Lebron, is greater than it will be with even an improved Kyrie but no Lebron and no other major star. So you have to take that into account too.

:chuckle::chuckle:

Kyrie + Mozgov + Cunningham for Cousins + Rondo.... frontcourt of Love and Cousin have great potential (spacer and bruiser), plus better perimeter defense and pg play (but worse shooting) from Rondo... But I doubt Sac would do it...

Rondo while racking up huge assist numbers is just as ball dominant as Kyrie. He's not really moving the ball around he's holding it and creating opportunities for him and only him to get the assist. Also having him, Boogie and JR is playing with fire. But no way Sac does this.

Just think about it hypothetically

What happens if LeBron and Kyrie were traded for Durant and Westbrook

Does the team improve?

You don't even need Rondo. Just promote Delly to the starting line-up and voila.
