2015-2016 Around the NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Did Webber really just say kicking is part of Draymonds game? Wtf? Because that's a basketball move and everything.

It's over 73 win team

Steve Kerr is treating this like any game

Curry is on the bench

If this was LBJ he would play all game

Agreed.

Really? From who?

I mean, I'm not even that much of a critic of DeRozan's game, and I highly doubt Toronto agrees to a max deal, or would be naive enough to overvalue a player who is overperforming in a contract year.

I just don't know if teams would gamble that kind of money on a player with such a non-stellar track record.

Right, but what value?

I'm fairly certain he will get max offers from at least 3 teams. Probably LAL, almost certainly Tor. Greg Monroe got max offers from Lakers and Knicks before signing with Milwaukee last season. Its not exactly a high bar. And with 900m available for the FA market there are going to be a lot of deals that people are up in arms about. Conley will likely turn down a 5/150 deal with Mem. Its going to be a bloodbath.

I think Dwight's problem is that fans just don't like him. His value on the court is still substantial. Maybe even at max or close given that 20+ teams have max space and there are only a handful of,more impactful GAs. But no one is going to bring in a guy at that price that fans won't support at a price like that. Which is why he is out on his PR tour.

I wish the NBA didn't give so many ballots to media guys that really don't know basketball. Like, for example Fred McCleod has a vote. The guy obviously isn't watching many games other than Cavs broadcasts that he's busy hosting and producing. Nice guy, but these awards affect people's contracts. You just end up with weird results.

It is getting better. I was actually emailing the guy that voted for Melo when LeBron was nearly unanimous. He was a nice but woefully uninformed guy. There are only 129 votes, it seems like you could easily find enough guys who really know the game to do the voting. But then there are groups of people who want a vote and it gets somewhat political.

I live in Los Angeles. I don't know anyone that would want or think the Lakers should offer a max to DeMar DeRozan. Everyone I've spoken to thinks that would be absolutely awful, and local radio tends to agree.

I think such logic is based on the idea that the Lakers are desperate to compete now; but realistically, that's simply not possible. Therefore, one is assuming the L.A. front office can't find a better use of their cap space; and I don't think that's the case.

L.A. is always mentioned as some free agent destination...

I think the only team that's liable to sling him a max would be Toronto, and that's simply so they don't lose an asset in free agency.

I like Dwight just fine, I don't think that's his problem.

I think his problem is his piss poor play, quitting on his teams, and players, coaches and entire organizations disliking him.

As far as his value; well, ask Houston what they think his value is.. Pretty obvious what they think having now signed Mike D'Antoni.

I could see Howard getting a max ahead of DeRozan, but, whatever team decides to give Howard a max contract is making a huge mistake IMHO.

Dwight wants a full 10Y veteran's max contract, AFAIK? Unless he no longer considers himself a max player?

What team has the cap space and willingness to sign him for that kind of money (~$30M+)?
No one that he would consider, would offer him a max. I guaranSHEED that he plays for much less than max. I say throw a one year MLE at him just to say, "hey, if you want to win here is a 1 year deal take it or leave it". Odds are he leaves it, but man would it be funny to see this guy miss out on a big payday.

He is opting out of the final year at like 20m. He isn't doing anything for the MLE

DJ on 1st team seems absurd but there are NO viable Cs.

Feel bad for Millsap. Felt like he earned a spot but F is pretty nasty. Dray should have been 1st team C and it would have fallen better. I KNOW he got a lot of C votes considering how many 1st, 2nd votes there were for the Cs...
did I really just realize that Kyrie didn't get a single vote!?

Looks like Philly is making calls on Okafor & Noel. I'm sure they'll get a haul if they actually move on but how bad does that make Hinkie look. I wouldn't mind calling on Noel but I doubt we could afford him.

Collecting more picks? I was hoping they were willing to sell one to the Cavs. Maybe they still will.

Rumor is that Biyombo is looking at a contract in the 17 mil a year range.

I don't think he is eligible to make as much as Dwight since he hasn't been in the league as long. But it would be absurd for any team to pay Dwight more than what Biyombo would get.

Biyombo is 23, has a lot of potential, energy player and arguably still more impactful than Dwight right now. Dwight is 30, declining, and the walking personification of drama as problems seem to follow him everywhere he goes.

If Biyombo is making 17-20 mil a year, Dwight should be making less than that or in the same ballpark.

Biyombo loooks like a nice piece, but those contract numbers are laughable. If you are throwing him 15+ mil to be a foundational piece, you immediately messed up your future. Thompson got paid for a relatively similar skillset, but we already had a championship caliber core in place and weren't going to be able to replace that production by other means.

That would be a huge gamble on him being an elite defender and rebounder while also becoming an offensive threat. In a league becoming increasingly perimeter oriented, I'm not sure how valuable having a defensive only big is. I certainly don't think it's 15 million or more.

I heard he was shot to death...RIP.

New Orleans Pelicans Wing Bryce Dejean-Jones Has Died

BY: JACK WINTER 05.28.16
Travis Hines of the Ames Tribune, New Orleans Pelicans wingBryce Dejean-Jones has died at the age of 23.

Former Iowa State men’s basketball player and current New Orleans Pelican Bryce Dejean-Jones has died, the Dallas (Texas) County coroner’s office confirmed to the Ames Tribune on Saturday.

The coroner’s office is currently unable to provide a cause of death.

DeJean-Jones, who played on multiple 10-day contracts for the injury-plagued Pelicans this season, signed a non-guaranteed three-year deal with the team in February. He appeared in 14 games for New Orleans in 2015-16, quickly becoming a fan favorite for his relentless two-way hustle and aggressive brand of individual defense.

The Los Angeles product went undrafted last June after one season at Iowa State. He initially attended USC before transferring to UNLV for two seasons.

Our thoughts are with Dejean-Jones’ family and friends during this difficult time.
