2016 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No news is generally good news in the lead up to the game.

That said, in terms of strategy:

Ohio State lost to Dabo Swinney under Urban Meyer a couple of years ago.

I don't know what Urban's record in rematches coming off a loss, but it's pretty fucking good.

My belief is they'll let the aggressiveness of Clemson's DL make the designed runs for JT essential to taking pressure off.

The offensive line had four weeks to prepare and take their game to the next level to stop these guys, all four of whom could be playing on Sundays.

Key to the game is where Clemson's DLine ends up in the run game, if they're a yard deep in the backfield OSU will struggle to run the football and puts pressure on a passing game that has been nothing if not inconsistent.

My hope is that the Clemson DL gets all this publicity and our DL takes it personally and plays with a nastiness. We have the horses, and we have the depth.

Are there any matchups that anyone is looking at in particular? Like I noticed that this Clemson WR Williams is apparently going top 10 in the draft. He has 1 touchdown against AP ranked teams this year... We have Lattimore at CB and Hooker to help out.

Anything else sticking out?

For me personally it's some of the draftable guys I want to watch.

Clemson RG Tyrone Crowder I firmly believe will be a guy who slides into an NFL starting lineup next season. He's a monster who has to deal with breakout guys like Dre'Mont Jones or Bosa.

The Clemson DBs like Tankersley are highly regarded, but I've never personally been impressed with their secondary and I'm wondering if four weeks of prep have the Buckeyes likely to take more shots down field.

This is also the OSU secondary's biggest test since Oklahoma, and mark my words, the toughest guy to stop on the Clemson team is going to be Renfroe.

He's everywhere and does everything well. Not sure OSU has seen a player like him this year.

Austin Carr from Northwestern? He was a PITA when they played OSU.

Clemson has gotten gashed by both downhill power football teams, and finesse, outside run teams like Florida State.

I have a lot of confidence Ohio State will be able to get chunk yards in the run game. I just haven't been impressed with the play calling at all this year though, so I'm curious to see how often they exploit something if it's working well. We really haven't hammered teams for showing weakness in certain areas (Weber through the 0-1-2 gaps for example against MSU). You are running at a mediocre backup (thank god McDowell was injured) averaging close to 6 YPC on inside runs, and we just insisted on not bludgeoning them with it. Weber was guaranteed damn near 4 yards or better ever time, and still, it was just JT Barrett over and over, too much throwing the ball, and too many outside runs. It was comical in some regards....as if Meyer was intentionally putting his team in a tough spot, which some have theorized, but I don't believe it...

So my confidence in physically wearing on Clemson, and just being able to move the ball is high. My confidence in play-calling exploiting the holes that are apparent throughout the course of the game aren't as high....

But Clemson should've lost to NC State, were gifted a game in Tallahasee by officials where they absolutely should've lost, and actually losing to Pitt is pretty telling....

One of the more talented teams in the country, but something hasn't clicked. IMO, they have a lot of juniors already with their foot out the door (no different than Buckeyes last year) and it manifests itself into less aggressive play on the field. It's tough to reach optimal levels when multiple guys on each side of the ball are playing to protect their knees vs. 3 steps past the whistle balls to the wall like OSU circa 2014. 2015 just didn't have that level of intensity from opening week for the Buckeyes....the same can be said for Clemson this year.

I am heading down for the game this Friday....Staying in Peoria Arizona...Is there anybody on here who lives in Arizona or who knows the area and has recommendations for things to do/see besides the game? also really into breweries and trying good food places

Explains why he chose Michigan

Hubbard and Price have announced they are staying. So that's a good start on the underclassmen. Would bet my house that Hooker and Lattimore are gone. But if we can just keep the guys who aren't 1st round locks, I'll be thrilled.

So the loss is not a shock, but very down on the performance given they had 5 weeks to prepare. The play calling was pathetic and the lack of development of the young WRs throughout the season leads me to believe that Urban finally sees a new offensive coordinator is necessary. Looking back not only were we lucky to beat Michigan but the MSU game should have warned us that this was not the same team from the Oklahoma game.

I think JT has a ton of work to do over the off season. His footwork and anticipation leave a ton to be desired. When the starters were saying how much they were blown away by Haskins in bowl prep I think that was a subtle clue to me that Jt was looking just as bad in practice throwing the ball downfield as he was in games. It is not all his fault. Lack of development from the WRs and a very bizzare game plan made this game a disaster.

One thing is clear if Urban wants to win another national championship soon he is going to have shake things up on the offensive staff. Guys like Victor and Mack and Hill should be making huge strides between now and next fall. If they don't, then some major questions about the staff need to be addressed. The talent is there, and hopefully with a new offensive coordinator this offense can take a huge step forward next year.

That was the first time since Urban took over that we were blown out of the water. I think the coaches def deserve some of the blame. Again the loss is fine, Clemson is a very good team, but I don't think they are 31 points better with 5 weeks to practice. it bothers me that a team like VA tech gave them a much more competive game.

Let's hope we get this stuff fixed for 17!

This is what I'll say about JT.

We saw what he looked like with Herman. We saw what Cardale looked like with Herman.

We then saw what Cardale looked like with Beck, and have since seen what JT looks like with Beck.

By deductive reasoning, I think it's fair to conclude it's not JT. Had I not seen what a good JT Barrett looks like for a whole year, then maybe I'd be ready to toss him under the bus. But I have. Same for Cardale Jones.

I don't think it's JT. I don't think it was Cardale.

It's Tim Beck.

I get the love for JT, but he was completely flustered by a pro style DE entire defense. The only line can take some blame, but they had successful running pays, just did not do it enough to matter. JT missed at least three long strikes overthrowing his man and threw right into coverage a few times. He just was not ready to be the quarterback. With this game his pro stock dropped to near zero.

He might improve in the off-season, but he has such a long way to go, I don't see him making that jump...

Pass blocking and run blocking are entirely different things. This O-line hasn't pass blocked all season.

Either way, he's gonna be the starter next season, so I don't know what "jump" people are talking about. He's not gonna turn himself into a number 1 pick next year, but he never was. He's an Urban Meyer, bruising QB who can run the read option efficiently. He doesn't go after tall, strong armed slingers.
