2016 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Never really seen Samuel run between the tackles in 3 years. Mostly took counters and sweeps.

Most of Barrett's "inside" runs were off option looks or draws. Not the war Tebow would run up the middle. I don't know that either running up the middle is the answer. Both found their best success doing other things.
The outside runs weren't working at all. The few inside runs we did had some success. Both Samuel & Barrett's long runs yesterday were up the middle.

Who was asking for us to run Barrett less? A lot of people.
Less is different than not at all.

Not quite sure what this means. I am not saying they were. I am saying fans clamored for something, got what they wanted, and then gave the same arguments they started with.
If Ohio State was running A all season, the fans were asking for B, and against Clemson we got C. The only thing in common was that it wasn't A.

The 2015 offense was much more than mediocre. Top 20, probably top 10 unit. Same thing this year, when you consider the year as a whole. There are definitely struggles against good teams, and they definitely regressed as the year went on. But the OSU offense is still consistently top unit.
Having the statistically 20th best offense in FBS is nice I guess, but we all know there's more to it than that. Consistently no showing against teams with good defenses is a concern. Either way, the offense has not done their part the last 2 years.

Samuel's run was a counter, which you can't run more than 2 or 3 times in a game. I have to claim ignorance on Barrett's long run. Weber had some success, but he kept putting in the ground.

Take away sacks and he still lead the team in carries. And was under 3 a carry with them.

In the first half OSU ran 30 plays and 14 of them were either a carry by Samuel or a pass intended for Samuel. That was the B that fans were clamoring for, and they got exactly that. Problem was Clemson was keying on him, and between Weber's fumbling and the team's inability to throw downfield all year, they had no counter.

I wouldn't say consistently no showing. Spotty record over the 2 years, and certainly trending in negative direction. But even with the negative direction, given the inexperience this year, it's still a big net positive. There are just things on the margin to clean up.

Can't confirm if true, but looks
like first movement of coaching staff is the hiring of a new QB coach, Ryan Day. Day's Wikipedia page has been updated to say he is new OSU QB coach.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Day_(American_football)

Day played for Chip Kelly at New Hampshire, and later became his QB coach in Philly and San Fran.

If this ends up being true, I wonder if it's a precursor to a bigger move. Day did have a successful stint as OC and QB coach at Boston College before leaving for the Eagles job.

I was under impression Kevin Wilson wnoukd be hired under some capacity as well (could be a quality control type position similar to Sark prior to stepping in....no contact with players permitted).

Anyways, I take this as good news if true as, we need new blood on the offensive side of the ball.

That's quite a face-saving move if I'm Tim Beck.

Rumor over at Hineygate is that Kevin Wilson (ousted Indy coach) will be coming on as our new OC. Take it for what it's worth...if it makes any difference, one of their most in-the-know mods was the one who shared the news.

This has been the rumor.

I'd say he's the favorite by a wide margin, and an excellent fit.

Still think smaller moves need to be made to get this team to play up to it's potential. I'd demote Warriner and have him take over the offensive line again.

If we can't get better play from our o-line and WR's next year, it doesn't matter who is drawing up plays.

Meyer is never going to demote Coach Stud, so Warriner will likely stick with the role he has now and be demoted from play-calling duties.

I think the hierarchy here is simple:

1. OSU reaches out to Chip Kelly about the offensive coordinator role.

2. His answer will determine if Kevin Wilson is hired or not.

With everything i've heard about Kelly, i can't imagine him taking a demotion like that...i also never thought we'd be able to land Schiano either so we shall see.

Would be an absolute A+ hire if we pulled it off.

To follow up on my Ryan Day post, Steve Addazio was attending OSU practices prior to the Orange Bowl. Apparently Day was with him (Addazio is BC Head Coach, and Day was the OC under Addazio). Sounds like Day may have already been in the works....

Also, Beck may have known he'd be moving after season no matter what. Here is a tweet from December 24th:

Mehringer was hired to Herman's staff after being OC at Rutgers last year. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Beck knew he needed to be looking prior to the bowl game.

My guess is Day has been added as QB coach....we still have one more hire to make.

Also, everyone needs to keep in mind, starting in 2017, college staffs are allowed to increase from 9 assistants to 10. So we lost Beck, will likely hire Day, and have one open position left. My guess is Wilson or Kelly.....and even if we hire Kelly, I've heard Wilson would consider taking a QC position, and then slide into OC after a year once Kelly takes a Head Coaching gig. A year out of the lime light for Wilson could be a good thing, similar to Sark, and let the controversy blow over.
