Welcome Larry Sanders and So Long

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not liking that. He needs to develop as much on court chemistry with this team that he can. Gonna be hard to do that in limited minutes in the playoffs and just practice.

Guy's been out of the league for three years. Fifteen games isn't going to help.

Like I said in another thread, don't expect anything from this dude.

I honestly think it's 50/50 he even lasts through next year.

Cavs need help right now. This season. This playoff run.

They aren't bringing in someone that they believe can't contribute till next season. What the hell would be the point of that on a team competing for back to back titles, and clearly is DESPERATE for an inside presence.

That doesn't guarantee anything of course, he very well might fail. But, it is absolutely fair to expect him to be able to contribute SITUATIONALLY (not rotationally) in the playoffs, and the first step is to get thrown into the deep end in Canton.

And the Cavs thought he was the best player available for this upcoming run, for what they have in mind for him. Acting so dismissive of him and what he can bring is just guesswork, and you lack the information the decision makers have.

I'm happy they got him to agree to so much....but man, if this is the BEST offer he got, what does that say everyone else thought?

And I don't want to hear "well he was holding out for the Cavs" stuff. No way after the Cavs signed Bogut that Sanders was out there passing on offer after offer from other teams. No shot. If he had something, he'd have taken it.
I don't know, I mean he could have waited for the Cavs to decide if they were going to waive Liggins for Sanders, and Griff and Larry's agent could have had an open dialogue throughout the past few weeks, then once Bogut went down the talks progressed beyond just maybe signing him, to actually offering a contract.

It's been reported 15 other teams showed interest in him. 15. That's a pretty large number, and Golden State was also one of them according to those same reports, and some of their beat guys. So it's not like he had no other teams showing interest. Maybe those teams didn't offer a contract, yet, but they definitely were watching the situation and considering it.

Once Bogut went down it was pretty clear they were going after him. I was told and heard from a few people that this was their plan B if Bogut decided to go elsewhere, and it was also an option like I said for the Cavs if they wanted to waive Liggins and bring Sanders on board with this same type of deal. It would have made sense for sure.

As far as him going down to the D-League. Good call. He hasn't played an NBA game in what, 2 years? He needs to burn some minutes where the game speed isn't at an all-time high. He needs to graduate a little bit, and spending a week or 2 down there isn't the worst idea. It's actually smart.

A lot of people do need to lower their expectations of what Sanders could potentially bring to the team. But he does have that potential, and with this current group of guys - mainly LeBron, he can have success around.. That was honestly probably a strong selling point for him and his camp.

As much as I wanna believe he's going to return to his old form, and average 5 blocks a game, I know that's far from reality.

But could he shake off the rust and produce enough to get key minutes? I think so.

I'm definitely excited and intrigued to see him with the Cavs.

Sent from my Galaxy Edge. Don't forget that the Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals.

Expecting him to come in and play 15-20 minutes consistently and actually have a positive impact on games, and playing a handful of possessions in a game where he doesn't screw up are two entirely different things. I'm seeing far more of the former.

I don't think it's fair to Larry or fans here to expect him to do, well, anything to contribute to a title on a consistent basis. Can he come in for a game, block a shot and grab a couple boards? Sure. But the guy willingly walked away from the game and has been out of it for basically three years. You don't just get brought off the street after not playing at all for multiple years and become a real contributor to a title team. Just doesn't happen.

Dahntay Jones spent an entire year in the d league after years in the NBA and made, basically, two plays in a title run. If Larry Sanders gives this team two momentum swinging plays in a title run, that's basically hitting the jackpot.

I changed it in honor of Larry Sanders

Gotcha.. I hope it brings us luck.

As for D.Jones, he was a below average nba player and never even came close to the peak of Sanders. I don't think it's a very good example, mainly because of their career trajectory and different playing positions.
It's much easier for a bigman to make a comeback if he is physically healthy and in his 20s.

We just need him to be athletic and Me7o.. but not too Me7o.

With that said, I don't have a lot of expectations but I have to be positive for once.

Best post I've read in this thread since the signing. 100% agreed.
