I disagree for the most part. I do prefer Liggins, I think he'd be very useful versus quick guards that get rolling in the East.
But he doesn't have much of a place versus Golden State because Kyrie is playing 40+minutes, and I think our 2 guards do a fine job on Klay as it is. Curry isn't the quick, explosive type that really gives Kyrie trouble. We have a decent strategy against GS. And Liggins as an offensive liability is a big problem against them.
Dahntay is a good perimeter defender. He is strong, he has good size. He's a solid rebounder. And he has lots of playoff experience. Made key plays last year in the finals for us.
Chalmers is not ready to play this year, Achilles truly is usually a 2 year injury. If he was ready,, he would be signed already And Farmar is not an upgrade over Deron on either end of the floor even with Deron struggling.
So while I do like Liggins and he's better in a vacuum, Dahntay is a better matchup for the Warriors, since he's more of a forward nowadays, there will be more opportunity for him to play. His toughness and physicality is going to be needed against Golden State and honestly probably Toronto. I could see him getting spot minutes on DeRozan.
He's also able to play in the LBJ at the 4 lineups, and while he can't shoot the three, he can rebound and be physical. Kind of a change of pace from RJ. The Cavs obviously don't want to have to rely on Derrick Williams in big moments, which is somewhat understandable. Jones is also playable on Durant in spot minutes. He made big money over the years being trusted with guys like Bron, KD, Kobe, etc. He's like 6'6 but he's very strong and tough, a PJ Tucker type. He's not the athlete he once was and hes probably the worst shooter out of every perimeter guy in the league. He can't play 25-30m a game anymore either. He can play well in 5 minute spurts though.
Overall, I don't think this was a bad move. I think arguments for both guys are valid, but at least we have a guy that we know can give us a big play in a big moment and that's all you can ask for for the end of the bench.
