2017-2018 off-season thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Even beyond Tyreke Evans, it's alarming that there don't seem to be any stories linking the Cavs to potential free agents that could potentially be acquired through the MLE (think Allen, Dedmon, Miles, Mbah-Ah-Moute, Sefolosha, etc.) except for a well past his prime Jamal Crawford.

Yep. That is what is worrying for me.

I just hope we are working behind the scenes with no leaks to the media.

I think KOQ would improve just by playing alongside better players. Especially alongside LeBron who can maximize his skill-set. IMO, while TT brings some vital things to the roster, it would be easier to replace him than get a forward like Melo who could get buckets at crucial stages of the game, ensure LeBron isn't gassed late in the game by ensuring the second unit doesn't collapse when LeBron sits and more importantly just a player who won't shrink at the big stage.

That is why I feel getting a Dedmon or McGee for MLE and then turning TT + Shump for Melo and O'Quinn would be moves that improves the Cavs overall, as well as in terms of match-up against the Warriors.

My point is even if that's true, and I'm not sure it is, is there any indication at all that the Cavs are trying to move Thompson? And as far as I've seen the Cavs haven't been linked to Dedmon or McGee or really any other free agent besides Jamal Crawford.

Ohh, I know.

Which is what the frustrating part is. Because its pretty evident imo, we need to re-tool.

Otherwise, if we end up going into the playoffs with virtually the same roster with no major moves rather just a couple of different vets, it would be incredibly poor planning. And something that would play a huge part in Bron ultimately end up leaving!

And that is something which not only fucks us short term, ie for this season but long as well. Because without LeBron, this team would be a fringe-playoffs team or a team which gets knocked out in the first round. That would start another chain reaction where Kyrie may want to leave as well.

Sometimes I wonder if Cleveland is still not a destination even with LeBron here. There should be more links to Cleveland. It's like free agents are skipping over or not considering.

This is the most asset strapped iv ever seen a team be. We have NO young moveable players, we have no players outperforming their contracts that could fetch decent draft picks. We have a top 5 PF on an extremely good contract who we cant even move because somehow in a league of 3point shooting no one seems to want one of the greatest stretch 4s of all time. Add in that weve destroyed the Eastern conference to such an extent that no one in the East would even dream of helping us even if it hurt their team.

I just think we aren't reaching out.

One we don't have a GM and 2 LeBron wont commit and 3 Gilbert seems to have hit his spending limit

I feel like if I had to bet Melo is more likely to be a Rocket than a Cav. The Rockets have more movable pieces to swing a trade for him and a GM who has proven to pull off brilliant league-altering moves. The Cavs don't even have a GM right now and seem to be in no rush to add one. And the Cavs tradable pieces are either too good to trade for an aging Melo (Love and Kyrie), too integral to the Cavs without an additional signing of a replacement player which the Cavs can't easily do (Thompson), or are just too unappealing to the Knicks (everyone else).

Until Gilbert stops spending, you cant assume he's hit his limit.

We have 12 bodies on contract and only need 3 more. If we are in fact waiting for one of Wade or Melo to resolve themselves, then there is no reason to throw large chunks of the MLE at anyone else.

The most frustrating thing is we cant even make moves to try to get close to golden state and they are handing out gigantic deals left and right and adding more people.

my question is if the Cavs don't have any assets to give the Knicks for Melo ( and I'm not giving up Love) I don't see anyone Houston has that would excite the Knicks ...looks like NY is screwed as far as getting anything of value in a trade...we better be saving our remaining $ for something right?

Well they spent their entire MLE and have 3 spots to fill with veteran minimums. One spot which will be on Pachoulia for around $3.36.

This makes alot of sense. The extra money might be the difference between the buy out happening or not, especially with Wade.

Also our mini MLE has be used like an asset. Throwing it at a guy like Tyreke Evans is good for the short term but it will be a one year rental because of our cap. If the team is going to spend that money and taxes, they might hold out to get a guy that they can get on a 2 year contract or 1+1 with a team option. Evans was never going to do that and we couldn't afford him after the season most likely. A player for the whole 5.2 million MLE for this year plus the 125% (6.5 million) for next, will allow us to throw an offer of 11.3 million after that with early bird rights. I think that's how we need to look at the mini MLE unless we get a star like Wade or Melo.
