2017-2018 off-season thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Do we own our pick this coming season?

Yes because of the Stepien rule. We traded away our 2017 pick so we have to keep our 2018 (at least till we make the pick). Our 2019 1st round pick was traded to Atlanta with protections but we can trade the reverse protections of that pick now.

I know a lot can happen this year, but I cant help but feel like we make a serious play for VJ King. Ive seen projections in the late 20s. I would imagine he goes up if anything.

Ah so we'd probably be smart to almost tank the entire season and get a bottom seed in the playoffs. We can beat anyone in the east without a problem. But we need good young players desperately.

I guess we could but it becomes a risky strategy. Do we rest players based on the current standings? Or do we come out win 40 games then shut it down? What if there are late season surges and we then can't rest anyone the last week's before the playoffs?

We need the regular season. Too many bad habits come from chill mode.

Exactly. If we had a team with alot of young unproven talent on the back end of the bench, you could rest vet players and gain something from it. With our roster structure, we aren't gaining much from playing our back end of our bench.

Yes we've seen how well just not giving a fuck about the regular season works.

Very bad habits form, and not enough options and strategies are practiced.

I think there is an argument to be made that Boston is less built to beat the other top teams in the east despite adding Hayward with loss of Bradley/KO/ and one of Crowder or Smart. Honestly, I'm not sure they are any better, and almost certainly worse against any team with a great PG. Hayward positions them better for 3 years from now, but not next year.

I strangely think the Clippers would be better with their additions minus Paul if Griffin wasn't out until December.

Strange offseason.

As long as Lue is here that's not changing. Chill mode will continue.

As long as the Cavs have a roster full of older and injury-prone players that it absolutely the correct strategy. The Cavs regular season sure didn't stop them from demolishing the East. And sure they lost in the Finals, but that's because they were facing maybe the greatest team ever assembled. I doubt the outcome of the Finals would have been any different if the Cavs were playing all out in the regular season.

Lebron doesn't need the regular season- the rest of the roster needs to learn how to win a game without him.
Kyrie and Love specifically need to step up and let dude get rest and/or take a night off.
Dude played an average of 38 mins a night in the regular season, and this team struggled the last two months of the reg season.
Its just inexcusable for a team with this much firepower.

A lot of next season will depend on whether Lebron's heart is still in it. If he gets like he got in the 2010 playoffs, I could see the Cavs not making the final. He will also be 33 as well, he isn't going to play 80 games.

I just think the Celtics made moves to close the gap and if Lebron feels hopeless like in 2010, I smell "Quit 2" coming before he bails and ring chases in his waning years.

Love or hate it, the Cavs are all in right now. They have to make moves to build around Lebron and if they don't, he is gone. The post-Lebron era is going to be bleak any way you go about it.

What good are locker room guys if you don't practice.

Edit.
I don't really care about practice but if you state you don't care about regular season wins or home court advantage in the playoffs.

Then you should be using the regular season to prepare.

Versatility was a key component to last season playoff run but we didn't see that this season and it really wasn't relevant until the finals.

Lebron should be taken out for at least 5 minutes early in the 1st and 3rd quarters because any other time Lebron is gonna push himself on the court whether you want him out there or not.

There was a lot of non LeBron lineups that should of been played during the regular season regardless of whether they expected those guys to play in the post season or not.

the first two road games in the finals were perfect opportunities to get guys out there and see how they matched up yet we saw nobody until garbage time.

I reject the notion that Channing Frye couldn't contribute quality minutes or there was no room for Derrick Williams. or that the answer to Golden States TT strategy was to take him off the court. I don't think Kyrie even had any segments where he was running the offense outside of ISO an area where he had shown improvement in the prior playoff series.

This type of attitude is why some fans laughed at LeBron for coming back to Cleveland. Seriously WTF.
