It is all right. When an academic red flag is waved in front of me, I go into the "defending masters thesis" mode.

And, anecdotally, and personally, the issue has become more real the past two years. The horror stories I have heard from people I know regarding this is chilling. They were horribly abused. No child and young adult should be subjected to what they were. And we all know it isn't uncommon. People are awful.

Im going to look at this more closely tomorrow, but what jumps out at me is that people who have seen an improvement in life and relationships post reassignment and others who did not see their condition as a big deal at any point, at best still attempted suicide at 33%.

I still don't buy that people being mean is worse than jews in Nazi Germany. That's a really tough sell. I dont accept that premise. Mortality in gulag camps only reached 24%. those who were persecuted after being classified as Jewish according to Nazi race laws were 26 times more likely to commit suicide (rate: 1,480/100,000) than the non-Jewish.. Not even close to 40%

I caution you against using the words "people being mean" as a one-off dismissal.

We are talking systematic severe mental abuse starting at ages of 6-7 years old from parents, family and other developmentally important authority figures. That shit will absolutely fuck you up for life. Don't treat it flippantly.

As for the study, I will read it, but I have to reconvene tomorrow. Scotch trumps logic sometimes.

I can't keep up with what's acceptable and what's a slur any more. I also can't keep up with the alphabet of categories everyone wants to be labeled either. I was at a fundraiser at a college last week and they have a learning and living center for people who were LGBTQIA. There's also P & K, but there's disagreement about whether those deserve recognition. I was immediately on google and shocked to see that "Queer" is now a category. I asked someone from the school about it during dinner, i said that i was under the impression it was a slur. He said, something to the effect "to some it absolutely it is a slur, to some it's a proud label and they want to be called 'queer'". My head hurt, it made no sense so i dropped it. Pretty soon we are all going to have to wear name tags saying what category we are...and our pronoun preference.

"P" stands for "Pansexual"...i cant even remember what the heck that is...but i will call Gary a "Panny" next time i see him. :chuckle:

There's men, and then there are women. Determined by biology.

The rest of it are lifestyle/behavioral choices that people are free to make. I'm free to think it's weird as hell, but unless it actually comes up as a matter of public policy, I really don't care what makes them happy.
 
I think it's great that there's trannies. Something else for people to argue about on the internet and Alex Jones to yell about.
