2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The costs of moving up to #3-4 are so prohibitive that I don't think any team has the balls to move up to draft a FS.

A QB? Sure. Barkely? Maybe. But any team that traded up that far, giving up a fortune, would be roasted by their fan base for anything less than a skill position.

We need QB, FS, WR, RB, CB in next year’s draft and with the fact Minkah may be the only true FS with drafting on Day 1 (James is considered better at SS than FS but can play either position). If we sign Cousins then without a doubt we can get Minkah, but otherwise we are going to draft a QB in the first round. We need to go for elite talent next season not have just more draft picks and hope they work. Next season is an all in type of year so don’t be surprised if we trade our 19 1st or 2nd round in this draft to move up.

My guess is with all of our assets, we will have three first round picks, QB, Minkah and a WR in the first round, and second round we will continue getting offensive skill players/BPA since there is a lot of RBs and WRs available. If Rosen/Mayfield is our number one guy and Minkah is number 2 we need to get them both. The Fan base won’t care what we do with the Texans pick as long as we get a QB like Cousins or draft a guy with the 1st pick. If we come out of the first round with a QB and the top WR, anything else is irrelevant.

Hence why getting someone like Cousins is the best move since now, we can get Minkah, Barkley and Sutton/Washington in the first round. If a guy like Jackson or Allen is available in round 2 then we pick him up as well and develop Kizer and him behind Cousin since you can never have too much talent. If we don’t sign Cousins then we do limit our options, but a QB and FS are a must in the first round for me and if I have to trade up for the best WR in the draft then I am doing it. I don’t care to keep Louis or Higgins. This is irrelevant to me at the end of the day especially if Gordon stays clean and we sign a Matthews to be a possession receiver for us. Gordon, Coleman, Matthews, Washington/Sutton and winner of last spot (maybe draft Cobbs in the second round) will make our team fearsome there lol

I'm glad you're not our gm. There is absolutely no reason to trade a 19 pick when we have 5 picks in the first two rounds.

I think the Browns could offer Cousins 30M a year and he would say no, frankly.

The statement wasn't about the chances of him coming here, it was if he did.

Did I miss the Browns getting a third first-round pick?

I can do trade scenarios where we end up with a pick in every round in 19 and trade up in the draft and still get all the guys we want. Even if we trade from 19, it doesn’t mean we won’t have a pick in 19 in every round, one just may not be ours.

We have to go for the top 2 players on our board in next year’s draft and at the moment that’s Rosen/Mayfield and Minkah (at least from needs and analysts draft boards). 18 isn’t going to be about rebuilding, it will be about winning and we cannot win without positioning ourselves with the right picks to get the players we need. If that means trading from 19 to do it then so be it.

I mean I can make a scenario where we have 4 first round picks and still have 2 picks in the second round and number 65 as well. This team has cap space and access to a ton of picks. I am going for at least the Wild Card next season. In the past we just sat back and grabbed guys and acquired extra picks, 18 is the year to use those extra picks and get the elite players, not just fill in needs

Nope, but they have 33, and I don’t have a doubt they aren’t picking at 33 since they will do what they did for Njoku again next season. The top WR is going in the first round and my target is Washington/Sutton to support who we currently have. But that’s just me I guess

Aka the Browns are going to move around in this draft once again and it may be up rather than back so they can get the guys they need. We don’t need a lot of players again, we need the top talents possible in this draft.

We have a lot of holes on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. I'm not trading any picks unless I'm getting more back in return.

Derwin James is a bad fit for the roster. Not a ball hawk. I suppose that if you could move Peppers, then I would jump at the chance. Otherwise, huge pass on Derwin.

If the pick ends up top 5, I am taking Fitzpatrick. I would consider the best skill talent too *whether that is Guice, Barkely, or Ridley*.
Derwin isn't a "ball hawk" but he's light years better at FS than anyone on this roster.

I too would rather have Minkah, but if he's gone and Derwin is there, I'm taking him.

Edit: Also, hopefully Gregg Williams is gone so our fucking FS isn't 30 yards off the LOS.

We don’t have as many holes on defense as offense. We have a ton of cap space, as long as Williams is our coach, getting a Trumaine Johnson is reasonable, and another veteran Safety is reasonable as well, plus adding Minkah and another CB in 2-3 round, we just fixed the main issues on Defense. We can find depth LBs on day 3 or in free agency/waivers as well. Our defense doesn’t have a ton of issues, just mostly DB and depth.

Now we have a ton of issues on offense, but Gordon back, signing a solid veteran WR, plus getting better QB whether draft or free agency and still being able to get a 1-2 WR, 1-2 RBs in the draft even if we trade up, we still are able to fill in all the holes moving up in the draft. We have 6 picks currently in the top 70, and we could stay the same or more if we were willing to move our 1st or 2nd in 19 to move up/acquire more picks in this year’s draft. I mean we have enough to legitimately get 4 first round picks and still have 2 in the second round if we trade a 1st next season.

Draft at one, trade from Texans for a lower first pick, 19 first and 2nd round. Use our 19 1st and like 40 to get in the 20s and use 33 plus 64/65 to get back into the late 1st.

So then we have 1, 15, then two in the 20s then a 40s and 64/65. We still manage to get the same amount of picks but can now get 4 first rounds instead of 2 and still have 2 more in the top 70. There is a lot they can do to end up with the same amount of picks, but move them up as well.

Where do we see Denzel Ward going in the draft? I really love his potential and upside.

I'm for sure going Baker Mayfield number one overall, in my eyes anyway, barring something drastic. I just feel he's got it all and can be the guy. But with the Texans pick, I'm not sure where you go yet.. But it's going to be nice that it's a top 10 pick, possibly top 5.

The secondary needs some help for the Browns.. The concerns at corner are legit. Ward would be a great addition I feel, but I'm just not sure where he goes. Is he worth a top 10 pick? Can he be there later in the first, or early 2nd? I'm not sure.. But I'd love him in Cleveland.

Also, for folks saying go Mayfield then Barkley.. I'm in for that, too. What a change this offense would have.

Barkley, Mayfield, Gordon, Coleman, Njoku, Duke.. This could work.

Not a great draft for WRs.

You'd trade the HOU pick for a lower pick in the 1st and a 2019 1st, but why risk losing a talent like Minkah for a crapshoot next year when they can add an elite player sitting right in front of them? It seems like you are making a lot of deals without a direction to draft in.

When a team has a plethora of high picks in the first two rounds like the Browns you take the BPAs. It is highly unlikely they will receive picks that land as high in return for 2019. The more you overthink and complicate the plumbing the easier it is to stop up the drain.

Sports Illustrated has him #7 on their big board, Bleacher Report number 20, Walter football at 16, DraftTek at 21, CBS at 24, USA Today at 14,

So essentially they say he is a first round projection, but where he goes is a question mark which is likely going to be effected by his combine and interviews. I’d say he won’t be top 10, but won’t fall to the second round either. I am not sure if teams needs and boards since that will effect where he goes.

Not exactly my point, my point was what we can do in the draft has endless possibilities. If we sign Cousins I feel we still need to stay in the top and get the top players regardless of position in a sense. Minkah is my target right now and so is a guy like Sutton or Washington (the top 1-2 WRs will go in the first round regardless of what we think since that is a position that can be stretched on).

I mean with that scenario if I signed Cousins then we get Minkah, Sutton/Washington, Ward, etc. Barkley may be off the board before our second pick, so may as well trade down and draft a WR or CB rather than draft a guy at a position we don’t need. The top of the draft at the moment is a lot of DLine guys so I’d rather trade down and make more moves to get more talent than just draft a guy BPA at a position we truly don’t need in the draft. So I would have targets for my moves, and wouldn’t make them just to make them.

Aka if I don’t sign Cousins no way I would trade down, if anything I would trade up from the Texans picks to get Minkah and trade up again to get Sutton/Washington. I know the draft doesn’t have an elite WR, but we need to get the best one available in this draft and he will go in the first round. Then we get an RB and BPA after that. So it’s hard to say, but we have endless options on what we can do.

If we're going to "trade down," I'd prefer we do something like trade one of our three seconds (the Texans' second, maybe?) for an extra 2019 first rather than trade down with the Texans first rounder.
