2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Derwin isn't a "ball hawk" but he's light years better at FS than anyone on this roster.

I too would rather have Minkah, but if he's gone and Derwin is there, I'm taking him.

Edit: Also, hopefully Gregg Williams is gone so our fucking FS isn't 30 yards off the LOS.

Im not sure that is a good enough reason. I would rather get a stop gap or a lesser true safety than play both James and Peppers at safety. It would get super ugly between the two. Neither has a lick of ability with the ball in the air.

If we're going to "trade down," I'd prefer we do something like trade one of our three seconds (the Texans' second, maybe?) for an extra 2019 first rather than trade down with the Texans first rounder.

A lot of this depends on how the board shakes out.

If the choice is "Fitzpatrick at 5 or trade back" then you take Fitzpatrick, plug him in and be done with it obviously.

If the pick checks in at 6 and the top 5 goes Rosen-Darnold-Fitzpatrick-Barkley-James, then what do you do?

The biggest need at that point would still be secondary, but do you "reach" for a guy like Ward that you could probably get 6-8 picks later in a trade down? Do you stay true to best player available and pick Chubb? Do you scoop up a guy like Ridley? Do they even need Ridley if you're convinced Gordon is going to stay sober? Is Gordon even someone they should be willing to rely on?

What will they address in free agency before the draft? Another thing to consider. If they go spend some of that cap space (which I think they're going to do) on a starting caliber WR or CB or FS, that could alter the direction of the draft too.

It's all pretty up in the air at the moment. The only thing that seems to be unanimous among us as fans is that the Browns are going to pick a QB at No. 1.

We will pick a QB at one if we don’t put a ton of money into Cousins type of thing as well. I don’t think a QB at one is set in stone if we sign a Alex Smith, Taylor, McCarron, but they will grab who they feel is the best potential long term like KC did in last year’s draft with Mahomes.

I am honestly feeling more and more we gotta figure out a way to get a Cousins to Cleveland and allow us to get whomever we want in the draft. The organization skipped on the guy twice (much to my dismay to begin with) and now we have to gamble on him in free agency. We still take another QB in the draft, maybe the kid from Northwestern or Texas A&M to sit and develop for a few seasons with Kizer, but roll with a guy like Cousins as the starter and hope he can break whatever curse is in Cleveland.

I don't know how you came to the conclusion that we won't go QB at 1 if we sign Alex Smith when the guy that traded for him and traded up to pick Mahomes with the idea of sitting him for a year behind Smith is our GM now.

I disagree regarding James.

Combine numbers will change so much of this. If we end up with two Top 5 picks, you address QB #1 and if Minkah is there, you grab him. If he is gone, things become difficult.

B/R:

1. Cleveland Browns:Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA

6. Cleveland Browns (from HOU): Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State

SB Nation:

1. Cleveland Browns: Josh Rosen, QB, UCLA
New general manager John Dorsey said in his introductory press conference that his job was to find a quarterback for the Browns. That should tell you what he thinks about DeShone Kizer, who has had a maddening rookie season. He could like Rosen, a traditional pocket passer with a good arm and a quick release.

6. Cleveland Browns (via Houston Texans): Minkah Fitzpatrick, DB, Alabama
Whether you slot him into safety or cornerback, there’s a starting spot for Fitzpatrick on Cleveland’s defense right now. That says as much about Cleveland’s defensive backs as it does Fitzpatrick’s talent.

An interesting thing about the SB Nation mock, they did their first "Blockbuster" trading of picks. They referenced the Buffalo Bills. With them needing a QB still, and they have two 1st round picks, they have them trading up (currently with the 49ers). Now, if HOU goes on a free fall and all the dominoes falls perfectly and we somehow end up with two Top-3 picks, that would be intriguing.

In this mock, they have Buffalo giving up their two 1st rounders and either a 2nd this year or 1st in 2019 to SF. Out of that, SF drafts:

Guice & Ridley.

If this could somehow happen, albeit unlikely, coming out of the 1st with Rosen, Guice, Ridley would be pretty nice. Address secondary in 2nd round + FA.

I’m not saying we won’t draft someone number 1 if we sign Smith, I am just saying if they have someone like Jackson and/or Allen as the potentially higher QB long term, they may draft them, to sit and learn than just draft Rosen. Smith won’t sign with us unless he is guaranteed a starter for the entire season from Jackson and Dorsey. Aka you guys think when I say that type of thing, we won’t draft someone number 1, I am saying we will a QB, just may not be at one.

You do know that "aka" stands for "also known as" correct?

Yeah maybe I should have said ps there lol

My point was the fact I am not saying we won’t take a QB at one, but we may not if we sign certain guys and our target may not be QB at one, but may be a QB that need to sit a season or two before playing is their target. I think if we are drafting a QB at one, we aren’t signing a high ranked free agent QB, just a backup/mentor type of guy.

Don't worry, coach; I got you, brother.

Those both get me wet. The one with Fitz more so.

One of the concerns about both Wentz and Watson coming out was injuries. Josh Rosen has those same injury concerns. I'm bringing this up because lost in the hype with Wentz and Watson was the significant chance of them being injured. I can't sit here and say I'm surprised that they got hurt because that was a knock on them coming out. Just like Rosen. Keep that in mind.

Whats the timetable for an ACL injury this late in the season?

Yeah but Rosen is not a runner, at all. Watson runs all the time. Wentz also runs a bit, hence his injury. UCLA had no line to block for Rosen, hence he got hit all the damn time. Our line has done well in pass protection this year. I don't see the injury concerns comparable given all that.
