I don't know how anyone can objectively look at the roster and say the team isn't in the best position its been in for a very long time. Tyrod Taylor is by far the best QB thats been here since the return (not that its saying much). That alone should make a big difference. I mean he did just end the Bills' playoff drought.
Because people have been objectively saying the same thing for 15 years

show me on the field. Til then not being swayed with how we look on paper

I had voted 2020, nothing changes.

We have a lot of talent. I don't see many holes. We allegedly have our franchise quarterback. We have addressed the secondary. We have a young and hungry defensive front 7.

The issue is that we still have our head coach--and no one does less with more than Hue Jackson.

So, 2018 will be a 4-12 lost year.

Then, a new coach comes in 2019, implements his system.

We continue to add to our core-talent with our ample cap room. We go 7-9 in 2019.

2020, squeak in at 10-6.

I'm not sure if folks have been saying what Pick6 said about Tyrod.. Maybe for Jeff Garcia, or even for Trent Dilfer, but not recently. I can't remember a Browns QB as objectively qualified for the job who doesn't have a foot out the door to retirement other than potentially those two I mentioned.

I'm with you on the second part of the post.

Hue has pissed me off as much this past season as anybody. Something that could change things though is the hiring of Haley. Taking OC duties off of his plate could help immensely.

Yeah, except the difference is we have added PROVEN talent this year.

A guy at QB who has already lead a team to the playoffs and the best slot receiver in the league.

They will be better this year than the previous two, but it's virtually impossible to be worse.

On paper the schedule looks difficult. My guess right now is 4-12 or 5-11 this season.

They could make the playoffs in 2019 if Mayfield is legit.

How long do people think the other teams in our division have??

They’re all trending down horribly... I could not only see the Browns as a playoff team in 2020 but AFC North Champs.

I'm sticking with my original guess.

Still think we have a chance this year. I'd give us a long shot to win the division.

Staying positive. I'm getting too damn old to be upset with this team.

9-7 or 10-6. All we kept hearing from opposing teams last year was that we had a good team and have 4-6 win talent. Trust me from the Owner to the coach no one was trying to win last year. Fast forward to this off season and look at the huge improvements.

QB - Huge Improvement with Tyrod being the likely starter unless Baker beats him out.
RB - Huge Improvement with Hyde and Chubb.
WR - Huge HUGE Improvement with a Gordon back and Landry.
TE - Njoku will show improvements.
DL and LB - Will be improved just by staying healthy and we've added some depth.
CB - Huge Improvement
S - Improved and will allow Peppers to play his normal position.

Coaching - Adding Haley helps the offense and allows Hue to focus strictly on game management. 2nd year in Williams system should show over all improvement.

I really think on paper this team is better than the 2007 team but can they put it all together?

I'm expecting to score 25-30 pts per game and have a top 12 def.

I see too many questions marks across the roster to assume the team will be any good next year. But most importantly, Hue Jackson is a truly awful coach. He probably costs the team 2-3 games by himself, and to a lesser extent Gregg Williams.

OL - Has talent and experience, but LT is still a question mark as to how well it's filled by Bitonio/Corbett/whomever. JT is irreplaceable.

QB - Certainly improved by Tyrod alone. At a bare minimum we should see mediocre QB play, which is a massive upgrade. Who knows when/how well Baker steps in.

WR - Landry is a good add. Otherwise, massive uncertainty between Gordon, Coleman, rookies. It's a better unit, but how much better is wide open.

RB - Unquestionably better. Hyde is a marginal upgrade, but Chubb should be highly productive in year 1.

TE - Counting on improvement from Njoku here and little else.

On defense...

DL - Looks dangerously thin, and frankly bad if Garrett misses time. Going to need a lot of internal growth from the young guys.

LB - Again, looks thin. One injury and this unit goes from solid to bad pretty quick. I think Joe is pretty overrated.

CB - Hard to see this group not being massively improved with all the additions.

S - Again, more question marks. I expect SS to be filled ably by Peppers/Kindred. Randall at FS is a relative unknown. Little depth. And as always, the Gregg Williams wildcard.

Just based on the talent currently on the roster I would expect 6-8 wins. After adjusting for Hue, we're looking at 4-5 wins.

yeah this has also been said in varying forms for like the last 10 years

The argument about the Steelers or Bengals or Ravens being on the downturn assumes that they're going to stop drafting good talent.

Fans don't seem to realize that teams don't stand still. The Steelers have invested into their offensive line and now have Rudolph and Dobbs to compete after Roethlisberger steps away (if he steps away by 2020).

Cincy and Baltimore still have a ton of talent on their respective rosters.

The myth that off years or rebuilding efforts for all three of these teams are forthcoming is presumptuous.

Absolutely. Every single time this analysis is done it assumes that 1 team (the team that historically changes leadership every 2 years) will add all pro talent while the other teams fail to replace any aging players and only decline (the actually stable franchises that haven't rebuilt more than 2 years in like a 20 year span)

I genuinely have seen variations of this argument for about 10 years now. I remember because it started when we won 10 games and we were the team on the up while the entire rest of the division was aging and fading

How people continue to make the same arguments year in and year out and genuinely believe them I will never know.

I'm jaded to the point where until I see us keep a front office for more than 3 years. Until I see us win 9 games in a season. I just will be skeptical that this is the time we have actually figured it out.

Gonna have to show me on the field
