2018 Trade Deadline

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Serious question, if Machado is dead set on playing SS, that must mean he's headed somewhere other than NY or Boston correct? Dodgers have a really good one too. Seems like that may limit his options, at least somewhat.

Gonna be interesting to see where he ends up.

At the end of the day if someone is gonna pay him 300 million to play 3rd base and someone else is offering 200 million to play shortstop, I think he’s gonna have to make a “sacrifice”

What a tough life

It will be interesting to see how that goes. Machado has easily been the worst defensive SS in baseball this year while having a history of being very good at 3B. If he signs with the Yankees, they do have a history of sacrificing defense at the position to keep a star happy...

Machado is just a sexy name...not worth it right now.

Kip is slashing .262/.337/.436 his last 40 games, which is more than serviceable, especially from a MIFer putting up good defensive numbers and with him in the bottom of the lineup. Plus odds are you aren't moving him to the OF or in a trade where you have to eat money or attach a prospect with him just to get someone to take him off of our hands if you were to land someone like Machado. Those kind of moves don't make sense when you are a small market in the midst of your contending window...makes sense when you are doing a mini rebuild, a la the Swisher and Bourn trade, but not now.

Think it would be smarter to grab an everyday OFer over a 3B or 2B. Indians had some major interest in all bat, no glove JD Martinez last year at the deadline...wonder if they'd kick the tires on a similar player like Avisail Garcia this year. Tough to trade within division, but we tried last year, and OF makes sense with Lonnie hurt and Zimmer banged up, and really only 1 good everyday option out there in Brantley.

Grabbing a decent everyday OF and some bullpen help would be a solid deadline.

What other OFs could we be targeting you think? I have a hunch they would want to get someone with years of control even if it means moving guys like Chang and Civale for the player. Anyone you would have in mind?

This could be one of those deadlines where the Indians grab strategic, non splashy names at the deadline that really fit in nicely but don’t get the pub they deserve.

And then we'll hear bitching from sports talk hosts and casual fans about how they didn't GO FOR IT

Yeah could easily see a trade for corner OF depth and something like Yates+Stammen from San Diego. Nothing sexy but moves that strengthen the team's depth

Fine by me. Just need guys that you can count on to produce. We don't need a superstar.

So no Pedro Martinez or Curt Schilling this year ?

Will snag Bip Roberts and Jeff Juden ? Ok cool...

Give me Blake Treinen and Adam Duvall, and I’ll be a happy camper.

Machado to me is one of those dudes that will get traded and destroy teams for a couple months with monster numbers... Then be on his way...(like the legendary J.D. Martinez did for Arizona)

But he’s gonna cost far too much... I’m not trading the farm for 3 weeks of Machado in October...

Now I would trade the farm for multiple controllable relievers for the next few years... If the Indians can reshape their bullpen this deadline it will extend their window for 2-3 seasons...
