Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Pretty odd to say a team didn’t compete with another team when they either tied or beat them.

I could see if a team came back and made it a close game after getting the shit kicked out of them for 50 minutes, but the Browns competed.

People are having this weird confirmation bias based on their history of watching the Browns shit it up against the Steelers since ‘99. The Browns not only competed with them, but both teams should be embarrassed that they didn’t win the game.

The Browns were held back mostly by bad QB play and their coach who made a terrible decision not to try to move the ball further downfield with 36 seconds left. And he decreased their likelihood of winning a game which he has done multiple, multiple times in the last three years. Which is why he will and absolutely should ultimately be fired.

Funny talking about confirmation bias then blaming Hue for the end of the game rather than the player who had an inexcusable block in the back on the interception return or the player who let the FG attempt get blocked or the OC who was calling the plays. Plenty of blame to go around to everyone, even the WRs who struggled to get open. At the end of the day the team tied Super Bowl contenders in shitty weather and is off to their best start and 14 years and everyone is acting like the world is fucking ending.

How about we give it a few games, yeah?

I'm sorry, but this doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I'm not even a Browns fan, and I feel like I need to chime in here.

It doesn't count as competing because the offense sucked while the defense stood out? So, if the game ended in a 48-48 tie you'd say they competed?

No, you can't expect 6 takeaways a game, but I also don't think you can expect Tyrod to complete less than 40% of his passes each week either.
Fair enough.

I guess my point was there is plenty of reason to be displeased with this game despite what some say, or at least displeased with the offense. Yeah, we tied with the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers. But we pissed away numerous chances to win the game. I want to see this team, this franchise take that next step forward and capitalize on the other teams mistakes. That is what good teams do.

Ya you’re right we only tied them 21-21 that is the opposite of competing we suck.

Correct, they sucked pretty bad.

They sucked pretty bad when they hung with the Steelers in Week 1 last year. They sucked pretty bad in Week 1 this year, and were fortunate enough to get handed a few turnovers and tied.

I don’t know when the expectation became that we are a GOOD team.

Can we be realistic and looks for progress from one of the youngest teams in the league?

You talk about the next step forward but you literally jumped up 50 steps to the top of the staircase and tried to cut out everything in between.

Can't stress enough how much the weather changed playcalling for both sides. Most elite football players aren't accustomed to the elements. They go to school someplace nice, most stadiums are built someplace nice, or the city put in a dome.

As an entertaining aside: the Niners played in Minnesota's dome on Sunday. A reporter asked Alfred Morris how he dropped a pass from Garoppalo and his response was: "My arms were really sweaty." Bro, if you played at FirstEnergy in Sunday, should you have just curled up in the fetal position?

You know, I thought, to an extent, that perhaps Hue was intentionally trying to lose games last year to make sure they got the top pick.

I know it is only one game in what should be a season where talent and expectations should be about winning, but the man seems incompetent.

Moreover, Williams seems like the worst sort of douche-bag: A D-Bag that doesn't bring anything to the table.

I guess we will see over the next four games or so.

His defense literally forced 6 turnover Sunday. :chuckle:

I think the Browns did some good things that helped them hang in there on Sunday. Most notably the defense's ability to create timely turnovers as well as the resilience of the entire team to keep fighting when down 21-7 late.

Having said that, I didn't see nearly enough from the offense to change my prediction that we get absolutely destroyed by the Saints this week. Hopefully it was weather related and we seem some good things offensively Sunday, but I've watched enough of Tyrod to have a healthy skepticism of that.

-Block in the back sucks for sure. Considering the browns still should have scored there, it's not as big of a deal, IMO.
-The FG attempt got blocked because the kicking unit used the exact same snap count on every single kick and the Steelers jumped the shit out of it on the last attempt. I squarely blame coaching for amateur shit like that.
-The head coach is going to decide whether or not the OC should look to move the ball or set up for a fieldgoal, no? Sure, playcalling could have been better throughout the game, but considering Taylor's poor play, staying conservative wasn't a bad idea.

Jigo's right. Both teams shit the bed when they had chances to win.

Completely agree. I'd be beyond stunned if we roll into New Orleans and put up big numbers offensively against them. They're going to be pissed about being embarrassed by the Bucs; they are way better than that and they know it. Unfortunately, we are their payback. I too am expecting a blowout loss.

So it is unrealistic to expect a team that wins the turnover battle +5 to win the game?

Can we be realistic
Oh look another person handling the Browns with kid gloves because a roster with 70% different players last year went 0-16

Fuck your realism it's time to hold the Browns and the decision makers accountable and stop anchoring expectations to such embarrassingly low levels
