Black Hawk Down was on.

Each time I see this, I realize someone else is in it that I never realized.

This time it is the guy who plays Jamie Lannister and Ty Burrell from Modern Family.

What a cast.

I've notice the same thing a couple years ago. I just looked at the IMDb and saw Tom Hardy was Twombly.

No fucking idea how Black Hawk Down is only at 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. Such a visceral experience watching that movie: few like it

I think it was his first role.

His first starring role was opposite Patrick Stewart as Picard's clone in the much lamented Star Trek: Nemesis.

He was a lot thinner then.

He was also Handsome Bob in RocknRolla, the Guy Ritchie film. Almost unrecognizable.

The Cloverfield Paradox - watched the first hour of this on an airplane yesterday (plane landed). On a scale of 1-10, I rate it "what were they thinking". They had a decent idea for a movie, but ruined it with multiple beyond idiotic scenes that had nothing at all to do with that decent idea.

Solo.

I honestly don't even know what to rate this one because it was just so bland. Like, it wasn't a bad movie, but it also wasn't a good movie. It just kind of exists. You watch it once, forget what happened almost immediately, and move on with your life. It looks like Star Wars and sounds like Star Wars, but it just seems to kind of lack something that's there in the originals and Rogue One but similarly absent from the prequels and the new films.

I also thought it was a mistake to tell so much of Solo's backstory in one film. The dude's in the Empire for like a cup of coffee in this film, and it just feels off. They could have made an entire movie about Han struggling with working for the Empire before he finally snaps when he sees Chewy being mistreated and attacks those hurting him (I like that version of the story rather than the film version). They also give zero context for why he knows how to (sort of) speak and understand the Wookie language. I remember the Han Solo expanded universe books telling a much better tale, where he was more or less raised by a Wookie slave and thus had a soft spot for the species, which in turn led to him helping Chewy later.

Also, Emilia Clarke can't act for shit. She should be thanking her lucky stars she got cast in Game of Thrones before anyone knew it was going to be the biggest show on television, because that's why she's getting other work. She's also a British actress who somehow always sounds like she's speaking with a faked accent. No idea how that's possible.

Anyway, I guess it's worth watching if you're a Star Wars fan. I don't think they really did enough with the droid character (we never really got to know her all that well). Lando was fine; probably the bright spot of the film. Great casting there.

But just generally speaking I feel like they told the most boring version of the Han Solo origin story.

Man I didn't watch this on your recommendation, but I was just on a plane and caught it. I think this is probably one of the best Star Wars movies since the originals. Made sense for the most part. I don't know if it really caught the essence of Han Solo, but it was really good. I guess my only issue with it was that Han wasn't enough of a smart ass. Glover was amazing in it.

The one Star Wars minutia question I had about it was: If that is Darth Maul in the end there, what? That would mean Darth Vader was a tiny boy when Solo was a grown man? Like how does that timeline stack up. They are just about to go work for Jabba at the end, so it was at most a couple of years before a new hope. Unless Solo is significantly older than Darth Vader, it really doesn't make sense.

Good movie, kinda wrecked Han finding his heart during the first 2 movies and portrays him as always a "good guy".

2019, i think?

I finally saw the trailer for Captain Marvel. Excited to see my future ex-girlfriend in this one.

One time I was trying to get a girl to break up with me. I took her to see "My Super Ex-girlfriend" then made her sneak into "Little man" with me.

I thought that would do it, but she thought I was "different than a regular guy" for taking her to such shitty ridiculous movies lol.

It's weird... If you notice, Darth Maul has no legs -- he's using mechanical replacements?

But FWIW, the movie takes place in the Year 9 BBY. This is 10 years after RoTS. And 9-10 years before A New Hope. This would make Darth Vader 32-33 years old during the events of Solo.

With all that being said -- Alden Ehrenreich is 28 years old, and Emile Clarke is 31. So... the actor playing Han Solo is very nearly the age that Darth Vader would be, give or take 4 years, at the time the movie is supposed to take place; and Clarke, his love interest, is almost exactly the same age as Vader is supposed to be.

But canonically, Han Solo is supposed to be 20 years old during the film; meaning, he's roughly 12 years younger than Vader. But looking at the actor, he doesn't remotely look 20.

So yeah, while narratively the ages make some sense; overall, it does seem strange given the actors cast in the film.

Good movie, kinda wrecked Han finding his heart during the first 2 movies and portrays him as always a "good guy".

I agree. It's very hard to reconcile this Han Solo with the one we see in A New Hope and the beginning of Empire.

Which doesn't make sense if this is supposed to be after Phantom Menace, as he got cut fucking in half and fell down a shaft into the center of the planet. Pretty sure there's no coming back from that one.

I always think of the Plinkett line when I see that scene..."This is a power generator? What's it powering? The universe?" :chuckle:

See Clone Wars, The.

It is a hackneyed premise, I wanted to hate it, but they actually execute Maul’s story really well.

They managed to make him interesting.
