So, the new Joker origin movie, and the Phoenix-Joker character ostensibly exists in his own timeline. Leto is still contracted by Warner to play Joker in the mainline DCEU; he also is working on a Joker/Harley project (supposedly) with Margot Robbie.

In reality though, this is sort of like what Sony did with "Venom." They suggested the movie exists in it's own timeline, until we found out that it didn't, and they were going to hamfistedly mesh it into the Spider-Man Universe, and thus, the MCU.

My guess is that the next Leto-Joker movie will not make it out of pre-production; that audiences will very likely respond much more favorably to Phoenix's Joker; and that Pheonix will take over the role as part of a DCEU micro-reboot. That'd be my guess..

I have a feeling the DCEU is going to quietly die in the next few years after the movies already in production come out.

I could see them folding this joker into the sequel of Matt Reeves’ Batman and then incorporating a soft reworking of godot’s wonder woman into that universe.

I just would be surprised if they really try to resuscitate that version of the DCEU when so much hate is attached to it.

I think they’ll have more success working everything into a grounded Batman universe than what they did trying to fold EVERYTHING into Snyder’s super man universe, which is sad because Man of steel is one of my favorite super hero movies.

But I think they made a major goof in trying to jump way ahead in the process and Snyder got overwhelmed to the point that he just made a movie of what he thought was “cool moments” instead of actually building a story or universe.

I wish Snyder had gotten a chance to just make a focused super man sequel.
