Cavs coaching search

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I will laugh so hard that I pop out an eye ball if Dan ends up hiring either of the Van Gundys.

JVG triumphant return to basketball after turning down multiple jobs will be to coach a bottom 5 team owned by someone he routinely insults during games...

I got a fantastic idea.
Offer the HC job to RJ.
I think he would love it. He doesn't need a long term deal. He can always go back to tv. Lord knows he would be respected. The other assistants can help with the work load.
Make it happen.

He's not far removed enough from the team yet and I think he has his mind made up on broadcasting and seems pretty passionate about it. A former player who is highly respected and I think will one day be a terrific coach is Shane Battier. He's currently the Director of Basketball Development and Analytics. Eric Spoelstra and LeBron raved about his intellect and attention to detail.

I like it. Can Kendrick Perkins be on the staff?

As much as Pitino is a pig I do think he would be a good choice for a young team as would Karl. Both are good teachers
Karl would be a disaster. He was such an asshole in sac and clashes with strong personalities.

I'd fire Larry Drew tonight and get someone who's willing to raise their hand and agree to coach this group of players without trying to strongarm the organization into something.

If he was worth a shit as a coach, sure, but we all know he's not.

I know one thing...Larry Drew isn't getting any other head coaching job anytime soon, so he should take his 76 games, take his bigger salary this year, and see if he cant do some good work with the young guys to change the narrative about him as a coach.

Fuck Larry Drew! We need new blood, new everything. All this organization seems to do is promote from within ending up with the same results.

Weird flex but he has a history apparently

Cunningham cites sources close to Woodson that suggest that Drew was lobbying for the Hawks head coaching job even before Woodson was let go. Whether that is simple paranoia or if there is something to it doesn't really matter now.

Sounds familiar....I would consider going in a different direction but looking outside reeks of desperation. Tough spot but they should've had a back-up in place before letting Lue go.

And giving Larry Drew a big payday doesn't reek of desperation?

Fuck what anyone thinks, hire the right guy for the job at all costs. Larry Drew is not that guy. Easy decision, IMO.

Yeah good point, f*** the optics at this point. When has an interim guy ever made these kind of demands in any sport?

Apparently this happens about as often as an NBA team fires its head coach 6 games into the season.

I am personally loving the drama this time. I dunno, something nice about firing the coach expecting and old timer like Drew to roll over and do what is expected while he flips the script. Cavs really have to figure the organization out. A dysfunctional organization can't win anything.

Longabardi as HC? :chuckle: full on tank... I haven't seen any announcement that he is officially let go... I expected that he is gone immediately after Lue was fired...
