I don't think you have to worry about a coach trying to strong arm the front office. Who is going to sign on to coach this team right now?
Consider the roster. The team isn't going to be getting contributions from Love or JR any time soon. That means the Cavs are rolling out a lineup where the only floor spacers are are Kyle Korver (37) and Channing Frye (35). Korver was never a lock down wing defender and Frye was never exactly mobile even when he was young. Now they are both pretty close to fossilizing. This team can't put two shooters on the floor at the same time and still defend. Not to forget that it's hard to see the old guys get 20+ minutes a game without without getting injured. The team can't even keep one shooter on the floor for 40 minute a game.
Next consider that the primary play maker is George Hill (absolutely disinterested ), and then Sexton (not a natural so far) & Clarkson (known quantity) as your secondaries. The team can't create open looks for the role players who need the table set for them to get an open shot. There's no outlet to take pressure off Sexton when he runs the offense other than Clarkson, who is more like a black hole than a distributor. None of the PG's are gifted enough to chisel their way into the lane when opponents pack the paint and dare the Cavs to shoot, which is what is going to happen when the Cavs go for 12+ minutes a game with no floor spacing. The only chance right now is to work out some miracle mid range game like Indiana did last year. That's tough to do without the guard talent that Indiana has.
Top that off with the fact that if any vets does start to look good with the young guys, you know the front office is going to ship him out of town s soon as the first reasonable offer rolls in, messing up whatever chemistry there was.
No one in their right mind wants to coach this mess to build a career. They are only going to do it to cash large pay checks. Guys cashing pay checks are not going to fight with the front office.
