Cavs coaching search

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not sure what interview you heard, but here's a Stackhouse quote from an interview on Zach Lowe's podcast.

“People say I may not like pace,” Stackhouse told Lowe. “I want to get out and run every opportunity we can. But if we don’t have something initially, let’s bring it back out, get into my Carolina secondary offense...I like the three. I like to have weakside action, making sure that guys aren’t stagnant and just standing, making sure that we’re keeping guys occupied...We want guys driving the ball to finish, but if the helps comes, I want that corner filled, and I want that slot filled, so I can sit there blind,” and here Stackhouse closed his eyes; he wants his players to know the right play so intuitively they don’t need to see it to recognize it. If you watched Stackhouse the player, you may see his coaching philosophy as somewhat surprising. He sees it, too.

“I probably wouldn’t like my game as a coach. Midrange twos...I tell guys, ‘All right, If it’s the shot clock and a guy runs you off and you gotta take a one-dribble pull-up, OK, do it. But otherwise, let’s try to get into the paint, pull another trigger, or find something else on the weakside, or just sidestep him and take the three...Guys who have efficient midrange games are always outliers.’”

^ sounds pretty anti midrange to me.

From a strategic perspective, I think it’s tough to know how Jerry would mold the team.

From a coach to player perspective, especially with our young guys, I don’t think there’s a better fit.

Maybe not fair to Jerry, but the best thing about him is he will fill the young guys with confidence and build them up. I don’t know if he’d get to see it through to the finish line like Brett Brown is getting the chance to do, but I think Stackhkuse makes a ton of sense for where this team is at.

Everyone else hires Spurs coaches why not us? She seems to check a lot of boxes too; former player, young, comes from a good coaching tree, seems to be well liked and respected by the players

She just became a bench coach for the first time this year. To go from such a secondary role, to now the last slot on the bench, to NBA Head Coach is a pretty significant reach. The closest she has come to being a Head Coach is running a Summer League team.

I’m all about outside the box thinking, but I’d prefer a coach with more experience as at least a bench coach in some capacity. I think she gets there someday, but it’s year 1 for her as what most would consider a true assistant coach.

And no offense to CLE, but if I’m Hammond, I’m looking for a job like Milwaukee this off-season. Not a complete rebuild where the owner wants to win immediately. The Cavs job isn’t very desirable. I’d avoid it if I were her....

Not sure what Drew is trying to pull here.....we’re 0-6 and going to be tanking very shortly.

James Posey can handle that job just fine. It’s not like we need some savant to handle the Head Coaching duties at this point.

Tell Drew to kick rocks if he wants to play hardball.

Could also hire outside a guy like George Karl to be interim Head Coach and just ask him to develop the young guys. Guy has actually been pretty effective throughout his career at getting the most out of ball dominant players (thinking Colin Sexton). It’d be a good way of sustaining Sextons development while also looking for a long term solution.

Karl has coached 1,999 games in the NBA. That # would drive me crazy (but OCD is one of my quirks)

I bet he would love to coach again, even briefly.

Karl has a way of simplifying the game and instilling basic fundamentals to his guys. It doesn’t necessarily translate to wins, but you typically see strong individual development of players on his team.

I think I’ve referenced it before, but Karl was a coach in the transition from 90’s style rugged play, to today’s free-flowing, positionless basketball.

He used to go crazy over JR Smith “killing grass”. Probably not what your first thought is.......

Karl was beside himself with the amount of dribbles JR would take in the same spot on the court without actually moving. This was a huge beef with Melo as well. He was OK with ISO ball, but “killing grass” was his pet peeve.

I think Karl’s book “Furious George” has probably blackballed him from the league at this point, but I promise there are guys who’d step in on temporary basis and basically be an extension of Altman and Gilbert and what they want.

Bottom line.....it’s time Sexton, Cedi, Nance, and Zizic get extended minutes and a huge push.

The Cavs should bring some temporary coach for this season, and get a good coach for next season. Good coaches are already occupied.

Only one option...think outside the box

Her name is Rebekah Harmon. How hard is this to get?

Pretty sure this is more evidence of the ongoing rape culture in America. We clearly still have a long way to go...
