Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looking at all the variables involved, who would you take over Baker at this point? Mahomes? Is that it? Do you even take him?

In a vaccuum with a generic franchise? Probably Mahomes.

For us? Mayfield. As laughable as this sounds, the attitude is an asset.

Not to say that Mahomes doesn't have that as well, but Mayfield is juiced up with it.

I've see a lot of ranking comparing Baker with Goff, Watson, and his peers in this draft class.

Where do people reckon Mitchell (Don't call me Mitch) Trubisky fits in the scheme of things? Is he worth drafting #2?

I may not be as high on Watson as others. He seems very inconsistent.

Trubisky is incredibly average. He can make plays with his legs, but otherwise, does not add much value. That offense has a lot of safety valves and are letting Trubisky learn while not dealing with loads of pressure.

The Bears are all about their defense. And that’s fine. They have a great pass rush without needing lots of blitzes, take away quick pass routes, and use two deep zone safeties to aid their corners. It works.

I don’t know if Trubisky will ever develop to a top-15 starter. He lacks a lot of tangible qualities. He can extend plays, though, that’s for sure.

It's tough to say. He's definitely improved this year, which is encouraging, but I can't help but feel he doesn't have much more room to grow. Unlike many of these young guys. I also think the Bears as a team have really helped elevate him.

I agree. And mostly because of injury risk. It's the same reason I said I'd rather have Goff than Wentz after last season, which certain people criticized me for. It's not even close at this point.

Mahomes & Goff are probably the only two QB's that I'd trade Baker for.

Biscuit is frustratingly mediocre and has done nothing but convince me that Matt Nagy is potentially the best coach in football.

Mitchell is decent, but not going to be a superstar. More Dalton level if you ask me. As far as Bears QBs go, he was absolutely worth the 2nd pick, though both Mahomes and Watson would have been better choices. But hindsight...

Watson is really good from what I have seen.

Baker is going to be a perennial Pro Bowl QB if we can get him a WR1 and patch up the defense.

"Baker Mayfield was sacked 20 times in his first 6 games. In the 5 games since Freddie Kitchens took over play-calling, he's been sacked 3 times."

Todd Haley folks...

I'm sorry, but I don't how anyone could talk themselves into him taking over. AND I HATE HUE TOO! Thank God we just fired both of them.

Still not a fan. His mechanics are all over the place. Just inconsistent mechanics. I just see him as a mid tier QB at best. Somewhere along the lines of a Flacco, Eli, type of QB.

At times really good, other times really bad, other times really ugly.

I see top 15 with Trubisky, its top 10 or even top 5 that I don't see. If you rank all of the QB's 34 or younger, he is almost there. The next few years will see Brady, Brees, Rivers and Ben retire soon. That is 40% of the top 10, maybe 60% of the top 5.

I know more young qbs are coming, but you look at the 30 and under bunch and the future of the QB position is in good shape from Luck, Stafford, Newton, and Wilson the older of the bunch, to young guns like Goff, Baker, Mahommes, Wentz, Watson, Trubisky and Winston the younger of the bunch.

The league is very QB rich right now and will be fun to watch for the next decade if not longer.

Rosen has all 5 starters on IR.

And yet, Steve Wilks won't change his scheme. Nothing better than slamming DJ31 into the backs of a combo of the C and the LG/RG for 1 yard on 1st and 2nd before going under center for a playaction pass for a 9.5 yard out.

The offense is riddled with injuries, but holy fuck is Steve the second worst coach I've ever seen. They're bailed out by a TERRIFIC defensive scheme and really solid special teams.
