If I am interpreting this even remotely , Cavs best thing might be just release him.Witha bowl of soup beside him.
Maybe, but I think you are jumping the gun. As we get to the weekend, we will get to the point whether a asset(s) appear that peak the Cavs interest for the contract they are taking back. A flip into the late lottery of the 2019 draft? A future pick added in? IMO, a flip into the late lottery wasn't enough. But that is Gilberts call in the end.If I am interpreting this even remotely , Cavs best thing might be just release him.Witha bowl of soup beside him.
Let it play out. If we just release him so what. I think some team will want his contract thoughLol. Yes indeed. The. Cavs primed the pump and got us all excited for a possible deal at that end of the year presser, when Koby was talking about how much value they felt the contract held. He was either trying to drum up interest in trades and/or he really overplayed his hand.

Which players left on the team have any kind of real attachment to JR? Seems like he was a cancer last year in the locker room, and nobody seemed unhappy when he spent the rest of the season at home. And there will be even more roster turnover this summer.
I think it is some fans who are more likely to be upset than are any players who really matter.
The issue isn't about JR. The issue is that the Cavs dicked around with a player for almost an entire season, and in the end, are not going to trade him (which was the one justification for keeping him on the roster). It shows the players that management doesn't give a shit about them ... and that while it may have happened to "only" JR today, they could be next.
I have no doubt that the Cavs could have made a trade if they wanted to. I just don’t think they’ve deemed the incoming asset as enough to offset going further into the luxury tax.Let it play out. If we just release him so what. I think some team will want his contract though
Oh please...this is the world's small violin playing just for the guy who stopped giving a shit after signing a fat contract, committed one of the most egregious errors in Finals history, and refused to be a good soldier and support the brightest acquisition we had to show for the disastrous Kyrie trade. The issue isn't about JR. Ha. Good luck with that, LeBron!
Then they resign Lance & McGee... I would watch the JR, Lance and McGee trio, that would be so Hollywood crazy
I agree with you about dicking around a player isn't a good look, however, they did say they explored trades for him and no one wanted him. What are you supposed to do? Did JR offer to take less money? We don't really know.
I do feel bad for JR. I mean he has the worst outcome to the first finals game possible and it was really Hill's fault for not hitting a free throw. Then the next year he thinks he is starting in the NBA and his playing time gets cut for Sexton and Cedi. He's over the hill tho. He hasn't been a plus player in 2 years. His expectations and reality are not congruent.
