JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If I am interpreting this even remotely , Cavs best thing might be just release him.Witha bowl of soup beside him.

Maybe, but I think you are jumping the gun. As we get to the weekend, we will get to the point whether a asset(s) appear that peak the Cavs interest for the contract they are taking back. A flip into the late lottery of the 2019 draft? A future pick added in? IMO, a flip into the late lottery wasn't enough. But that is Gilberts call in the end.

Lol. Yes indeed. The. Cavs primed the pump and got us all excited for a possible deal at that end of the year presser, when Koby was talking about how much value they felt the contract held. He was either trying to drum up interest in trades and/or he really overplayed his hand.
Let it play out. If we just release him so what. I think some team will want his contract though

I would say he played his cards right. They the got the guy they wanted for Cash and 3 2nds instead of having to eat a shit contract to acquire.

Even if you don't like or weren't expecting Windler the only other 3 point snipers between 11 and 26 that were taken were Cam Johnson and Tyler Herro. So swapping 26 + JR for 13 + Bad contract would have netted us Herro who is both shorter and less versatile then Windler.

Which players left on the team have any kind of real attachment to JR? Seems like he was a cancer last year in the locker room, and nobody seemed unhappy when he spent the rest of the season at home. And there will be even more roster turnover this summer.

I think it is some fans who are more likely to be upset than are any players who really matter.

The issue isn't about JR. The issue is that the Cavs dicked around with a player for almost an entire season, and in the end, are not going to trade him (which was the one justification for keeping him on the roster). It shows the players that management doesn't give a shit about them ... and that while it may have happened to "only" JR today, they could be next.

I agree with you about dicking around a player isn't a good look, however, they did say they explored trades for him and no one wanted him. What are you supposed to do? Did JR offer to take less money? We don't really know.

I do feel bad for JR. I mean he has the worst outcome to the first finals game possible and it was really Hill's fault for not hitting a free throw. Then the next year he thinks he is starting in the NBA and his playing time gets cut for Sexton and Cedi. He's over the hill tho. He hasn't been a plus player in 2 years. His expectations and reality are not congruent.

I have no doubt that the Cavs could have made a trade if they wanted to. I just don’t think they’ve deemed the incoming asset as enough to offset going further into the luxury tax.

Oh please...this is the world's small violin playing just for the guy who stopped giving a shit after signing a fat contract, committed one of the most egregious errors in Finals history, and refused to be a good soldier and support the brightest acquisition we had to show for the disastrous Kyrie trade.

JR was paid money he didn't deserve only to excoriate the organization and its vision before sitting at home and collecting his checks for free. No team wanted to sign JR in two separate FA periods upon his coming here and no team wanted to trade for him.

Fuck JR. I don't care if he brings back an asset or gets us beneath the luxury tax at this point, I just want him off the team.

Anybody who wants to pay me to sit at home can come right on down.

I'll be waiting.

I don't see the grievance argument. It's not like there was ever going to be a huge "hey lets go offer JR Smith a ton of money" market even if he played well all year.

They've had plenty of opportunities to trade him; they've just chosen not to do so. Don't want to divulge protected content here, but I'm sure you saw that too.

Again, the point isn't JR Smith. The people who are saying "but JR was a turd!" are completely missing the boat (though they're probably used to that). When a team dicks over a player, that behavior isn't going to be lost on other players on the team, or players around the league, or agents. That's the issue.
