2022 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
...probably not as a headliner.. but, clearly a very important part of any deal...
Wouldn't be a headliner in any major kind of deal, but is a legitimate additional piece now... Just last year, he would have pretty much been the throw in/lotto ticket in a big trade.

Bimbo or whoever…. With the surplus of legitimate prospects subject to this year’s Rule 5 draft now outnumbering what the organization will be able to protect on the 40 man roster, is anyone hearing if this front office is in conversations (or at least attempting) to replicate the trade The Braves and Royals just competed?

Kansas City received three prospects from the Braves for the 35th compensatory pick of the Royals in this year’s draft, for outfielder Drew Waters, right-handed pitcher Andrew Hoffmann and infielder CJ Alexander. This type of scenario would be perfect for this organization, with the surplus of prospects and the Rule 5 dilemma with the risk of losing multiple guys for nothing who aren’t protected. Acquiring a draft pick for a package of prospects would be ideal for that as the draft pick would be years from being Rule 5 eligible.

It’s been discussed to death on here how a 3 for 1 or even better a 4 for 1 type trade or 2 would be optimal for this organization to avoid losing legitimate talent and prospects for nothing with the Rule 5 draft . The issue with that type of trade however is Will bringing a vet in hinder the development of the youth movement going on? Will the Dolan’s take on an established vet’s salary? Just like trading Rosario doesn’t make sense because it adds to the prospect surplus, there aren’t a lot of realistic trade scenarios out there for a long term pieces that fit.

Are any of you guys hearing anything about The Guardians exploring any of these compensatory pick type deals for prospects similar? Along with that, I think this year is the year a rental or 2 for multiple prospect packages should be in play. It won’t add any $ to future payroll, it won’t block or make any of the young guys expendable long term with the younger movement that’s been going on and has been successful, and most importantly… this is the year this franchise not only can afford to do it, but they would actually be foolish not to with the prospect capital they have and the residual consequences of losing multiple guys for nothing if they hold on to them and do nothing. Most years it’s suicide for a this small market team to sacrifice prospect assets for rentals… this year it makes sense.

Really the only piece I’d be happy trading for as a long term piece would be only blockbusters, like Brian Reynolds , Ty France type deals. I’m more focused on bringing in a Wilson Contreras or a 1B type bat rental, or starting pitcher rental.

Kwans success is sustainable, with lots of upside.

Straw is a premier defensive CF who suffered thru a two month stretch that was awful, but has returned to getting on base.

Both are GG candidates. Between them...Straw in center and Kwan in left...they have combined for 19 DRS.

Unless packaged in a block buster deal...like a Reynolds...neither is going anywhere.

Cats’ bromance with Reynolds continues even during the outfielder’s injury.

Not Bimbo... but Guardians, I assume, look into everything and look at getting the best value for their needs and wants ...
1) You got to figure out if Cleveland is in win-now, win-later or somewhere in-between

2) You have to figure if Cleveland is in high value prospects (Espino but even he had perceived flaw) or lower value prospects that they can tweak (Bibee) -- seems like they value round 3-7 picks more (or int $$$) than pay higher $$$s on round 1 - those high value picks (usually look to save round 1 $$$ for later).

3) You have to figure if the Walters + others for pick is something that Cleveland values - (we have never bought a pick -- just trade Armstrong for Int $$$s but traded a Comp B pick to Seattle in Santana/Bauers trade).

4) You also have to figure who may trade -- EDIT -- How many comp picks get traded ... and this was for a ex-Top 50 prospect for pick? You have to find the right team that values the short-term upside for the long-term rebuild in the draft. Tampa has 2 comp B picks but they are buyers of them ... it takes the right mix of needs/wants and who values which prospects.

Then there is the type of trades to solve Rule 5 issues
a) The gamble of do nothing on Oviedo/Cantillo/Santander - for higher payday later (most common)
b) The reverse Myers trade with lower prospects as Myers was 30th rank guy (where Myers is deferred and Junior is heating up in July .387/1.016 in Arz)
c) Trade higher prospects for a higher return or rental (if in win now mode)
d) Trade for picks/int $$$

As I said before, the guys at the end of our Rule 5 list of add-ons ... that may get picked .... are very fringe adds (Miko, Enright, Benson -- non top 30) or are in lower levels like (G Rod in LC or Frias/Sanquintin in Lynchburg) or are coming off injuries (Torries ... like Cantillo). This is not necessarily a Walters ex Top-100 prospect trade for a highly valued comp pick. Its more like the reverse Myers trade (w Benson) or gamble on Torres like Cantillo last year and leave off 40 man for now.

If KWan can play CF I would deal straw which opens up the corner for Benson in LF and O Gonzales in RF. Jones to Firstbase , Naylor to DH and move Reyes if you want to stay in house with home grown products

Straw isn't going anywhere this season nor next season...

I’m looking for a new car, went shopping this morning. Went to a Honda dealer, wearing a Travis Hafner “Pronk” shirt. Salesman approaches, says “oh, an Indians fan!” Keep in mind I’m 250 miles from Cleveland and this is Yankees territory. We both start talking - the guy is Ernie Clement’s uncle!

Just don't let him know the majority of Cleveland fans are looking to cut him... lol

Jones vs Benson vs Valera... imo these are all high bust% guys. Valera is obviously the highest value guy due a lot to his age but any one of them can be shopped although not more than one imo. They represent some of the only big power in the organization and a backup plan is needed in case of bust. Personally I lean towards trading Jones. Benson and Valera are better in the OF and you might fetch a pretty good return for a team wanting Jones to play some 3B.

Oh, we talked about all the hate he gets. He said Ernie’s never gonna be a guy who hits 30 home runs, but he’s a good kid. I told him I’m pretty sure Ernie’s high school team took out my old high school team in the sectionals when Ernie was in high school. Had a nice conversation. But didn’t get a car yet. Lol!

This thread started with some prospect rankings. What are we thinking now? Feel like Naylor, Benson, Brennan, and Williams are the big moves up.

1. Espino

2. Williams
3. Rocchio

4. Naylor
5. Valera

Something like this for me now

I posted my list the other day in a thread...

Alright, let's go by logic and numbers to say who is where so I am not great at scouting, but good with reports and numbers...

1) RHP Espino
2) OF Valera
3) RHP Williams
4) 2B/SS Freeman
5) SS Arias
6) SS Rocchio
7) RF Jones
8) LHP Allen
9) SS Martinez
10) C Naylor
11) SS Tena
12) C Lavastida
13) RHP Burns
14) 1B Noel
15) OF Brennan
16) RHP Bibee
17) RHP Morris
18) RHP Battenfield
19) RHP Curry
20) LHP Nikhazy
21) SS Tolentino
22) SS Fox
23) OF Halpin
24) LHP Cantillo
25) RHP Mace
26) RHP Hankins
27) SS Tucker
28) OF Greene
29) RHP Myers
30) RHP Mikolajchak

If I went by MLB.com top 30 list and adjusting some guys...

Brennan, Cantillo, and Bibee are big jumps, Tucker, Halpin and Myers are the fallers...

Though I think I gotta find someone to replace Myers, maybe Benson? I mean his physical tools, ceiling and his numbers at AAA can merit his climb back into our top 30 for now...

We will get a new list after the draft anyways, but there is a very high probability we have 45 FVs not in our top 30 after the draft and the evaluations from the 21 international class...
