Kareem Hunt: One Pissed Off Runner!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

My guess is the 4 million is why he wasn't signed by anyone else before this. Ford was a cheaper option for the Browns and you don't pay your #3 RB that much. Even if his asking price was vet minimum, I'm not sure many teams would have taken on Hunt with his past if they didn't have a clear role for him. He just doesn't make sense as a #3 RB sitting on the bench because of the risk.

It makes a lot more sense now for the Browns to bring him in. Clear role and playing time. We also need someone better for pass protection and an outlet for Watson. He also can take on the role of running between the tackles if Ford just isn't cutting it.

Hunt's usage dropped off significantly at around the mid point of the season, particularly after Week 5. He had 10+ carries in each of the first 5 weeks. In the remaining 12 games, he only had 8+ carries twice.

Per Game Averages:

Games 1-8
9.6 carries
38.1 yards
3.96 yards/carry
33.5 snaps

Games 9-17
5.1 carries
18.1 yards
3.54 yards/carry
22.7 snaps

Up to $4 million. I'm sure a huge chunk of that is incentive based

Other than the reasons I've already laid out why I think Hunt is the right move, he'll also boost the morale in the locker room which needs it after what happened to Chubb, and it also boost the morale of the fan base. If he's completely terrible, they can find someone else off the shit heap later. For now, it's what I would have done in Berry's place.

I dont love it but I don't hate it either.

Save trading for a big-name option (JT, for example), he is about as good as any other option out there. Hopefully, he has regained some of the burst he lacked last year. This team needs a legit running game. We can get away with committee, IMO, but we need general quality then.
