Did Koby Altman nail the rebuild?

With news of the latest injury to JA, perhaps the most disturbing aspect is that his replacements are Damian Jones and Tristan Thompson. The lack of adding a solid NBA level backup at center this off-season is a fireable offense.

Examining Damian Jones’ journey through the NBA since 2016 consists of two pectoral muscle surgeries (one on each side), multiple G League assignments, multiple 10-day contracts from several clubs and having navigated himself to 8 different teams. Koby really had to struggle to come up with a replacement for Robin Lopez to whom he pales in comparison …..SMH

Jones has a positive plus minus for years. I don't think it will be that bad. He also has shooting ability

Count me in the group that is interested in seeing Jones. There were some rumors several weeks back that the Cavs have been very impressed with him. They targeted him for a reason and Koby has done a good job with finding some lesser known players to turn into rotational guys. Ripping the bandaid off and seeing if found another right away at least let’s the Cavs know where they stand.

And if Jones proves to be serviceable.....I'd really think about giving him split minutes with JA to keep JA healthier and fresher throughout the year. Maybe tell JA he's only getting 22 minutes a game and go balls out.

I do think JA does better around 25-28 min

we can give minutes to brobley if jones ain't cutting it

Is it a bad thing to be forced to run the small ball experiment early in the season with some of our new shooting ? If dwade and Niang add value, we’ll see what we got. Personally I think Mobley benefits with more space in the paint and looks a bit more ready to “bang”. He can definitely defend the paint.

Let’s be real, no more Ben Wallace’s and Erik Dampiers in the league. We should not be playing the Knicks straight up this year again.

JB said they have been experimenting with different small lineups they want to use this year.

Very interesting the way they have talked about 21-22 and how they had more lineup flexibility then than last year even though the team did better. I think that is pretty clearly true

Some really frank assessments by Nuggets GM here, and it’s an interesting lens to discuss the current Cavs core with—

Booth’s philosophy is built on four key pillars: basketball IQ, character, positional size, and the absence of skill deficiencies. All of the players the Nuggets target must meet at least three of the criteria, but ideally all four. The first three are fairly self-explanatory, but the latter means a player must be proficient at the typical skills for his position (a wing must be able to defend multiple positions, a center must be able to rebound, etc.). So, at 6-foot-10, it was especially vital for Porter to improve as a defender and rebounder, which he has. If he didn’t, or performed like a guard in those areas, the position would be considered a weak spot.

“Overlap is a silent killer,” Booth said about his team-building philosophy, citing the Lob City Clippers as a case in point. Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan both helped define that team, but they lacked the ability to space the floor, and neither was a great perimeter defender. In the backcourt, Booth said that JJ Redick and Chris Paul had too much overlap: “Both have the requisite skills for the position, and both were kind of undersized.”

A rather depressing frame to discuss the Cavs core -- we have two pairs of players and each pair overlaps in skills

Jarrett Allen is better offensively than Jordan ever was. Mobley is more versatile on offense than Griffin. I can see where the comparison comes from, but I personally don't think it's the same situation. Comparing JJ Reddick to Donovan Mitchell? Cmon...

Our core is Garland and Mobley
I do not see Allen or DM here past this year. I do think each can bring back a good haul of peices that better support mobley and garland

Not saying he doesn't have some room to talk with championship and all, but, he forgot the biggest one... "Draft a generational talent".

LOL, right my secret is "draft Nikola Jokic".

of course if he was the guy behind that pick he has bragging rights on everything forever -- by far the greatest second round draft pick of all time.

This is the big one. Who was the last team to win a title without a top 5 player? I can't think of one. Who on our team can be a top 5 player and, if we have that guy, when do they reach that level?

While I agree that its obviously Jokic who is both a multi time MVP and NBA champion and finals MVP, that leads to a discussion that includes Ginobili, Rodman, Draymond and our very own Mark Price among others.

Interesting conversation though.
