Ricky Rubio - Take the Money and Limp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It baffles my mind some think this is a con, it really does. I dont know what Rubio is going through, none of us do. But do you know who does? The Cavs front office, and THEY are the ones that negotiated a settlement said nice things about him and he said nice things about t he Cavs and its settled. Its not our money, its not our problem, and sure isnt fucking our business to be honest.

Well said on your part. I hope Rubio finds happiness.
There are options between this being a 100% legitimate mental health crisis and being a "con" that are plausible.

The point is he made up having an illness to go hoop in Spain and be closer to his kids. And that he used this made up illness to get more money out of the Cavs. That more NBA players are going to do the same thing to get out of their contracts.

Am I missing something here?

Please let's continue to do battle against hypotheticals. It's odd how reality sometimes goes in a different direction than our strongly held beliefs of people being inherently bad and trying to exploit the system. Especially in this instance when both parties agreed to part ways on amicable terms.

I do not think the cavs had any choice but to be amicable. They have said throughout this whole process they have only communicated through text messages. I find that odd when there are millions of dollars involved. But again, not my money and we do have some money we can spend now if we choose

Well there will always be contrarians and “more to the story” people out there but some of the reactions in here are really surprising. Saying that he quit on the team/had a job to do, is making millions, fleeced us, all sounds ignorant as fuck given the context of a guy suffering with mental health issues.

It really shows that some people don’t take mental health seriously at all.

Oh you're sad Rubio? Wipe those tears with the millions we just paid you and lace up bitch.

My point exactly.
It is complete speculation that this is the driving force behind this. It is all driven by an out-of-context statement from several years ago that he wanted to retire from the NBA when his Kid hits a certain age. We have no idea what role this played in his decision to step away from competitive basketball.
The Cavs did that same thing for Love.

But paid leave to recover from a mental health episode is different from simply not wanting to play again period.
The man had a mental health issue that led to him retiring from the NBA while in the middle of an NBA contract. The Cavs and he found a way to accommodate both sides in a way that would be more beneficial for the Cavs than retirement would have been.

Many people have done this in the past, but usually, the decision is retirement in an offseason and not with a protracted decision period.

Maybe because the alternative is disgusting and ignorant. If Cavs organization know it's wrong to say someone is faking an illness, maybe the people in this thread should follow suit

How does anyone conclude that he contrived this to go play in Spain? This was something he said a couple or so years ago. He's retiring not playing in Spain.

It’s not disgusting or ignorant to have an opinion on the situation. Sorry it’s not

Honestly since none of us have true knowledge of the situation as we are not Rubio or the front office, all of our opinions are ignorant. By definition ignorance is not having knowledge, unless you actually know the conversations and what really went on.

Not sure why you would think your opinion isnt ignorant.

It's not just an opinion, it's an accusation made without any evidence. You are slandering Rubio's character because you feel he stole from the organization and that he is faking an illness to go home to Spain to hoop and be with his family.

Don't apologize when you're not sorry.

I didn’t apologize. And I’m not sorry. It is not an accusation. It’s a possibility.
And it is. Be holier than thou all you want

How many people here are slamming JBB for not playing CPJ. For saying CPJ must have did something personal to JBB.
No one here knows what the deal is on their relationship We are all ignorant
Actually everyone here is ignorant on everything about this team internally
So no more opinions ?
