Donovan Mitchell is not leaving.

If he does, I will be surprised. He is the leader the Cavs have been looking for in the post-LeBron era.
No slight to Garland. I think he will be our "Mike Conley" but a better version.
It took a season for roles to start emerging, and that is the start of a good team.

Note he never said this sort of thing about Budy Gobert. That was a breakdown of trust that has not happened here.

Appreciate it while we have it, guys...

Sharife Cooper of the Charge signed to a 10-day. I'm assuming they need to have a certain number of players to satisfy league requirements and they've decided to reward Charge players who have been doing well and working hard by rotating it around a little.

Cooper was averaging 18.6 ppg, 7.6 assists and 4.5 rebounds with the Charge. He is a 6'1" guard

and to some of us here, JBB returning to his ole self before injuries was what we expected and that means a 1st round bounce again

There's no way Cooper is even 6 foot tall.

It's pretty telling that nearly every national pundit wasn't sold on the Cavs run due to the competition/scheduling, but the local guys all managed to convince themselves that we were a Championship caliber team because we beat up on a bunch of bad defensive teams in January and early February.

Like the Clippers.

I don't see us beating Philly with Embiid healthy plus Maxey, Melton, Oubre, Hield, Reed, Batum, and Tobias Harris. But if Embiid can't make it back 100% for the playoffs...it could go either way but I still like Philly.

I don't see us beating the Knicks if they start Robinson, Randle, Anunoby, Brunson, and Hart with Hartenstein, DiVincenzo, Burks, and Bogdanovic coming off the bench.

I don't see us beating Boston, period.

We have a shot against Milwaukee since, although extremely talented, they are very old. Lopez and Middleton are struggling. Lillard is 33, so is Crowder, and Patrick Beverly is 35. Lopez turns 36 on April 1. Middleton hasn't played in three weeks. However, the Bucks surprised me and beat Minnesota and Philly on the road, so they'll be very tough just on playoff experience and the superstar talents of Lillard and Giannis.

So I'm hoping we can hold onto 2nd place and win the first round matchup against a play-in team, then put up a good fight and take it to 5 or 6 games against the Bucks, Knicks, Philly, or Boston.

Jarrett Allen is playing the best basketball of his career. So is Okoro - he's shooting 50% from the field and 42.5% on 3's in February. Mobley's numbers are better than his career averages across the board. If Garland can get back to 100% by the playoffs we will have a very good team. Mitchell is scoring as well as ever and his rebounds, assists, and steals are all up.

Strus is having a problem with his shooting as he's hitting just 41.5% from the field and 33.3% from deep - both under his career averages. But his rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals are all above his career averages and he's shooting 49% in February. He just needs to find his 3-point shot.

LeVert is awful defensively and he's shooting under 42% overall and under 33% on 3's. He gets blown by with ease. Opponents just shoulder him out of the way or rub him off a screen.

The Cavs are 4.7 points worse when LeVert is on the floor, lowest on the team except for Mobley and Niang. He's the weak link, IMO. When Garland or Mitchell sits and LeVert comes in the Cavs are in trouble. I'd be tempted in the playoffs to use Strus as the third guard and bring in Okoro at small forward. IOW, go with four players at three positions; Mitchell, Garland, Strus, and Okoro. Cut LeVert out altogether.

The Cavs are 1.5 points better offensively with LeVert on the floor but a whopping 6.2 points worse defensively. Only Niang hurts the team more defensively among the rotation players.

So I would take both Niang and LeVert out of the rotation in the playoffs. If either one is on the floor he'll be attacked mercilessly. Both of them are struggling offensively and they're killing us defensively.

Go with Garland, Mitchell, Strus, Okoro, Allen, Mobley, and Wade. That's an average of 34 minutes per player (240 minutes divided by 7). We would probably play Garland, Mitchell, Allen, and Mobley 36 minutes and the other three 32 minutes, or something similar.

That would be a great defensive team with everybody except Allen capable of hitting 3's. That team might not be able to beat the Bucks, Sixers, Celtics, or Knicks, but it could put up one hell of a fight.

Philly will be a play in team though... so that is definitely a worry.

What do we do if Mobley’s numbers continue to stink? His stats look fine, but as you just posted, his number as far as helping the team is below even LeVert.

Wham, what do you think the odds are that your rotation would actually happen? 1 out of a 100? At best a snowballs chance in hell?

I disagree. I think we have a good chance against Boston and NYK. I think we have the best upset chance in the field (sans 100% Embiid Philly) against Boston. Our matchup with NYK should be a bit better with the moves we have made and them quietly weakening their perimeter D a bit. OG can only cover 1 man. Philly, I am not sure but its not unwinnable.
