Frye to Suns 2/yr $3.8 mill (pg. 37)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

I'd love Kleiza for the right price. He's athletic, can stretch the floor, is MUCH more proven than Frye, and would look great as a PF in small ball.

Also, a bit OT, what are we going to do with Wally's Bird Rights? Can we S&T him for something that's only half-dead?

The Cavs can use him, but it isn't realistic unless they get him on a three year non-guarnateed deal, and those get a lot of scrutiny from the NBA offices.

Oh, because they're so obviously only done for S&T purposes and kinda bend the rules a little?

Nah nothing like that.

Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

I wonder if W&G or Windy will have a comment about this tomorrow.

BTW: where did the RedBush: W&G thoughts thread go? RedBush had posted something I was reading on my iPhone, but when I got home to finish reading the thread was gone...

I wouldn't expect anything from Windy until at least Monday. I doubt if anything new comes up over the weekend.

Anyway; that thread Brother Redbush had going was getting long, old, and stale. I'm pretty sure the people heading things up in here put it away as much of it was long ago stuff, and it was getting too much off-topic. The man started a new thread with lots of great AND new info in it:

Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

What's with the Frye is on a decline stuff?

His rookie year was good. He declined a little the next year, but he played a few more minutes on what I would consider a worse team.

Then he goes to Portland and sees an immediate nine minute drop, followed by another six minute drop to the point that he averages less than a quarter a game of PT.

Of course he's going to be on a decline. You can't put up numbers if you aren't in the game.

I have a hard time believing a guy that young could have such a good rookie year and then just completely fall off.

Portland didn't favor him very much, he sat the bench, the numbers drop.

Things happen.

Fact is, we need a PF. He's a pretty decent young one and we'd be getting him for pretty much nothing with the BAE or the rest of the MLE.

If we used that money on a player at 1-3 or the 5, that guy would hardly ever see the court.

Frye is young, cheap, solid and plays the spot that we need to have bodies for.

It's a no-brainer really. Anyone who wouldn't pull the trigger on that is just being an asshole for the hell of it.

Why did his minutes go down in Portland even though Oden never played that first year because he got hurt? He was the 3rd big after Aldridge and Przybilla but failed to establish himself.

You cant rationalize away his 2nd and 3rd years in the league.

Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

After reading what some of the Portland fans had to say I'm warming up to Frye

Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

The reason why I think he is a shoe in for the Cavs is he is a great guy and the fans have nothing but good things to say about his personality. He is a fit in that respect and I think Ferry believes that if a guy has this type of mental makeup then he will work well with Mike Brown and Lebron.

Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

I want this deal to go down very bad. I am almost certain this would rejuvenate his career. Also certain he will be a guy that, as fans, we will enjoy - in the Joe Smith mold. Always solid, mistakes are few and far between. Really believe he has the game to start with us. Would be a toss up between him and Andy, and it would not surprise me if he notches 30+ starts if in Cleveland this season.

Nate McMillan just favors a certain kind of big, and Frye's skillset is/was a redundancy of Lamarcus Aldridge. Who is already a player who McMillan is trying to get to play "tougher" and more aggressive than he is already. So the last example McMillan wanted LA to follow was Frye and the way he played the game.

2 seasons ago, I pegged Portland as the team I would follow on the West Coast, anticipating Oden's rookie year, that didnt happen that year but I stuck with them on League Pass anyway. Early in the year they had like a 10-15 game winning streak or something like that and were playing like they would make the playoffs.

It was weird because at times it seemed McMillan wanted to play a smaller lineup. When it wasnt Przybilla/Aldridge, he would go with Pryz/Outlaw, Aldridge/Outlaw... and even tried Martell Webster and James Jones at the 4 spots in games i watched. But other times, it seemed he just wasnt a fan of Channing Frye and how he used his size on the court.

Channing Frye simply didnt play "big" enough for Nate for what I saw, I mean, he had a SHORT leash on him from the time he checked in the game. There were a few games I remember seeing him trot LaFrentz out there when he sat Aldridge down, just to set a tone for Aldridge and show him what he wanted his big men to do. I just checked the stats from that season and it showed Frye played in 78 of their games, but his minutes would fluctuate 5 one game and 20 the next, and the common denominator was usually Aldridge's foul trouble.

By my guess, it seems as though McMillan saw Aldridge and Frye as one and the same, with Aldridge of course being superior, and he would only play Frye extended minutes if Aldridge couldnt go or was in foul trouble.

I can understand that too. If your developing a young guy, and you want him to work on a weakness, you wont replace him every night with a guy who plays with only Aldridge's strengths. You know?

Thats my take on why he got buried and was never really given consistent time or a dedicated role.

Re: Windy: Cavs in talks for Frye

I think bringing in Frye would help this team on many different levels. He can help us with scoring, rebounding, and the occasional defense. All though I am still a little confused on where is minutes will come and how the rotations will pan out. It it will be interesting to watch the competition level between the players throughout the season. Boobie, West, and Parker are going to have to give it there all every night because if they dont they have to two guys behind them to snatch there starting spot. If we can bring in Frye it will be the same way with the bigs. It always good to just add that quality depth because it keeps all the players motivated and on the right track the whole season. Just something to look out for.

He was on the damn Knicks for two years. You aren't going to learn anything on the Knicks other than playing with four PGs at once and chucking up shots.

By all accounts, it sounds to me like Portland expected way more than they were getting in Frye and at that point, refused to deal with the fact that he might need a chance to play in order to grow.

Regardless of why he didn't play in Portland. He's one of the best 4's left and he basically have 3 centers and no PF's with more than a few minutes of game experience on our roster.

Frye is still at a point where Brown could mold his game a little to suit our needs.

But trying to explain things is probably useless considering half of RCF is just a contest to see who can shit on a player the Cavs are interested in first.
