Re: Andrew Bynum

The big name centers are Howard, Bynum and Al Jeff. If we are going after any of those, Al Jefferson is in my mind the obvious choice. I think Pecovic is also going to do well, and he may be worth it as well.

Beyond those, I think we have to be in the mind frame of a youth component. And that is not a long list. Thabeet is a big gamble, but might thrive in our system, Haddad maybe.. I like Splitter, but he is already 28. I also like long shots Bernard James, and Robert Sacre, but Sacre is the only one at the right age and he is no AllStar. If we get a decent shot at a center in this draft, I am not sure any of those could beat out the rookie...

I thought Millsap was a FA as well, but I completely agree with you anyways. The price we would have to pay for any of those players is just not worth it. There are a lot of players that would rather play for 3 million in Miami than for 5 million here.

Adrian Wojnarowski: Bynum's surgery will be to clean out remaining debris in both knees and take place Tuesday, Twitter @WojYahooNBA

He should have signed a long term contract for less than the max. Will be interesting to see what he gets as a FA. With the salary cap wonder how many teams would be willing to spend the big bucks on him? Big gamble.

I think the most he gets is a 3 year deal with a 3rd being a team option since he didn't play at all this season. At least with the way the new CBA is

I wouldn't be too surprised though to see the Mavs blow their load on him after Howard re-ups with the Lakers.

Re: Andrew Bynum

He'll get the max. Most likely from the 76ers. All this nonsense of "lets offer him a 1 year deal" is fantasy. This isn't NBA Live.

I agree. Bynum will get the max. It may not be the 76ers though, but he'll get offered a max contract by more than one team, and honestly, he's worth every penny.

Re: Andrew Bynum

I am thinking this is the list of free agent centers for 2013. I sort of grouped them, With the first four having an argument for a max contract, and the next three being demonstrably starting quality players. The next three in my opinion are probably back up centers but might start on some teams, then young guys and finally a bunch of vets i really dont know how to categorize. i included Milsap and Hickson even though they are more like power forwards, yet they seem to play centerish. Hickson in particular is only useful at center really.

The reason, i made this list is because there can only be so many max contracts, and personally I think Bynums case is lame. I think the other three guys are my first choices. I also think we could clearly get a decent vet big without a max, just because of the sheer volume coming out. That coupled with a high density of college centers will certainly change the landscape of bigs in the league.

I think the cavs could make a case to pick up decent vet centers in this crop, like Pekovic (big bucks) Kaman (Bucks) or Mullens(midlevel) to combine with Anderson, TZ and one of our picks, To create a very strong front court. if we can address the SF situation in the draft, I thiink we are in a great position going forward. .

Dwight Howard
Al Jefferson
Nicola Pekovic
Andrew Bynum

Chris Kaman
Paul Milsap
Tiago Splitter

Za Za Pachulia
Byron Mullens
Brandon Wright

Timofey Mazgov
JJ Hickson
Dujaun Blair
Josh McRoberts

Jason Collins
Jermaine O'Niel
Samuel Dalembert
Nazr Mohammed
Vladimir Radmanovic
Desagna Diop

Re: Andrew Bynum

Why is Bynum's case lame? Excluding this past season, he's the most productive big on the list not named Dwight Howard. If you assume he's going to come back and be a stiff, then I understand your point of view; although, I think it's somewhat presumptuous to believe Bynum can't pick up where he left off, his proneness to injury notwithstanding.

Because Bynum doesn't care about basketball. It's been said time and time again by every coach he's had along the way. You don't care about basketball, you don't rehab properly. Which leads to constant injuries. Wouldn't touch Bynum with a 10 foot pole for any price.

They'll still get max contracts... :(

Re: Andrew Bynum

Any word on Bynum?

Philly's new GM has not shown much interest in re-signing him.
Curious to see what his market value is right now: I don't think anyone will make Washington/Arenas move and get stuck with a very expensive and long contract but someone usually does come out of woodwork to pull out a WTF deal.

Going to say Houston or Dallas will be that team this year if they do not get Howard.

Re: Andrew Bynum

Odds are Bynum and Jennings wind up in Dallas. Neither of the big fish will go to Dallas, so they settle for a diet version. Even with their current cap situation, theyll make it work. Id be interested to see of they can retain Mayo with that team.

Re: Andrew Bynum

Bynum makes sense for Dallas as a short term window to get Dirk another ring. He is not playing into his mid 30's. I don't think he is a long term investment at all. He is less likely to be helpful than AV once contending, in my opinion.

Re: Andrew Bynum

Hoping there is no truth to this...

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, there is going to be no shortage of interest in free agent center Andrew Bynum once teams are allowed to contact free agents at midnight eastern. The source specifically mentioned the Portland Trail Blazers and Cleveland Cavaliers as two teams expected to reach out to Bynum along with all of the clubs with cap space pursuing center Dwight Howard. Howard is set to meet with the Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets. Of those five, the Hawks, Mavericks and Rockets have the necessary space under the cap to make a max, or near max, offer without needing to do a sign-and-trade. HoopsWorld

Bynum to Dallas would be interesting.
