2013 Waiver Trade Deadline Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Except the O's didn't claim Morales. He was there for the taking.

And all Seattle had to do was pull him back. And that indication was there:

Lots of people asking if Indians won the claim on Morales. It doesn't matter. Mariners will pull him back no matter who claims him.
— Tony Lastoria (@TonyIBI) August 27, 2013

Now, if Morales were to go unclaimed, then it would open up trade possibilities with team. Buts that why teams claim, to block trades.
— Tony Lastoria (@TonyIBI) August 27, 2013

Just because we claim someone, doesn't mean we automatically get him. A trade still has to be worked out.

To say nothing of the fact both Morales and Morse have posted a negative WAR since the break.

The way people elevate these mid-level players come deadline time must give their agents serious wood.

EDIT: Hadn't checked in a few days, Morales is up to a 0.1

Would be an upgrade over Stubbs next year.

Haha...no.

Although Kubel in right field would be hilarious.

Almost as fun as its been watching Stubbs strike out 120 times this year and steal half as many bases as last year even though he increased his OBP by .033.

Doesn't really matter. Neither are what this team needs.

Kubel's strikeout rate and OBP are actually worse than Stubbs.

Also, if you've ever seen Jason Kubel it's evident he's not a right fielder. He's a rental, who then becomes a free agent with no business being resigned.

He may help out at DH if this rumor is true. But he basically is pretty redundant next to G, so I'm not sure why this move was made.

I'd imagine it's a low level prospect who is probably in his mid 20's since the cash is in there

We cut Reynolds, and trade for Kubel. I do not understand.

Not a bad deal at all. The Indians are basically paying $1 M (or less) to see if Kubel benefits from a change of scenery and a return to the AL Central. You're not going to pick up a high-impact guy at this point in this season. I think Kubel can help.

Apparently theyre looking to bring back Shoppach as a third catcher. Arent there cheaper ways of getting automatic outs?

Can't get much cheaper than a minor league contract....
