2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Question.... Are we basically guaranteed to spend all of our cap space this summer regardless of LBJ coming here or not? Even if we don't spend this year, won't we likely be over the cap or very close to over the cap going into 15/16 because of Kyrie's likely max extension + all the other young guys contracts rising + a possible Thompson extension?

Basically, I want to know if this offseason is basically our last chance to really improve by using cap space?

Brendan Haywood's contract is going to be valuable if we swing a trade for a high powered player next season. Instead of only being able to use the MLE we essentially have an 11M piece to trade.

I would be interested in Caron Butler on a cheap deal to backup Wiggins. He is supposed to be a good locker room guy, and he still has a little bit left.

Wanted to mention a few names in FA and trade targets that could be good fits. (No mention here of LBJ or Love. Not realistic to me).

FA:
1. Marcin Gortat; very good C, runs well, and one of the league's best rebounders. With Wiggins strength in transition; step one would be to get the ball. Also weakens Washington.
2. Pau Gasol - experienced big man to say the least. High basketball IQ. Might enjoy playing for Blatt.
3. (Hold on to your butts) Jan Vesely - I loved this guy in the draft. You just don't see seven footers with that kind of athleticism. Euro might jump at the chance to play for Blatt.

Trade target:
Alexey Shved, t-wolves - Absolutely thrived on Russian National Team under Blatt. Could be valuable to implement the new offense. I know Delly was good last year, but Shved would be an upgrade.

This could be true, but you're going to have a heck of a time getting anyone on here to back you up on that. Also, it could come down to roster value composition. Delly at under a million or Shved at 3 million+

We shouldn't rush and overpay Hawes just because he's the best center left, that would be a terrible move. Just save that money and wait for a better option to come available via trade/free agency the next season. Don't overpay somebody this off-season that we don't want but just because they are the best at a position we need.

I can't believe somebody wants to sign the dunking ninja.

I'd love Gordon Hayward, but not sure he'd be worth paying something Utah wouldn't match unless we traded Dion (which I don't want). I'd love to have him come in and be 6th man though (or start and have Wiggins be 6th man).

If we wanted a center, I wouldn't mind Pau on like a two year deal. I'd hesitate to sign him any longer unless it was extremely cheap in the later years (or not guaranteed).

I do wonder if we'd have any interest in Greg Monroe whether as a C or as PF if TT were moved (I'd be crushed if TT gets moved).

If rockets win melo sweepstakes and we sign him to an offer sheet he is ours

So if no LeBron we are talking here about a possible... Kyrie, Wiggins, Parsons, T.T, Hawes or FA/trade Lineup? That sounds amazing to me and we would be a top seed If we get the right center even If you have to move T.T to the center spot and let the PF be run by Bennett. Bennett is such a huge key to this team man how I hope he turns out to be at least a solid starter.

Of all our young guys, Kyrie's gonna get max. Dion will get a decent sized contract, as will Zeller and I think it's clear that Dion and Zeller arent necessarily staying around. The cavs have a LOT of flexibility for the future.

Parsons would be a tremendous player for us, he can defend and shoot the 3, and is also flashy. Has height, versatile, young, and plays hard. Griffin talked about that a lot.

at this point i say resign cj and hawes if you can get them at a decent price, then wait for some vets to get cut. this team will have to get better this year do to the young players growing up and getting better. dont forget this was a 500 team after bynum was dealt and deng didnt help that much, if kyrie takes the next step under blatt and wiggins is anything like we exspect this team will be in the playoffs. its the east for god sakes lol, the best chance we having at winning it all is blatt coaching kyrie and wiggans into stars. the best chance we have to actually improve this roster will be threw a trade prolly right before the dead line, part from signing a couple of shooters i cant see any big signing in free agency.

I'd rather take repeated nut kicks than watch spencer hawes be our starting C for the next 3 years. Id rather just throw zeller in there until we can make a move for someone better.

I dont know if he is available but I love Javale Mcgee for this team. Sign Parsons or Hayward, trade for Mr. Shaqtin a fool and we are looking at a solid line up.
