2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Of course Thompson wants $10M/yr. That's crazy money for an inefficient big who's also a non-factor on defense. Thompson belongs on the bench and should be paid as such.

I don't see Thompson being able to play center full-time. That said, our best bet with Tristan is likely to pair him with Varejao's partially guaranteed contract in an effort to upgrade at center. We could also trade him for Kanter, who Utah reportedly doesn't want to pay either.

Of course you kick the tires on LeBron, but I do why I have to to get Gortat. Irving, Waiters, Wiggins, Bennett, and Gortat have the potential to be a potent starting line-up. Then I'd go after someone like Vince Carter (superb vet role model and can still ball) or PJ Tucker (Good bench defender at F, we need someone with our youth). Both guys could be major help on the perimeter. We just lack any real vet experience aside from AV. We need a desperate influx of quality vets to mentor our youngins.

I think you guys are all giving up on Zeller too quickly. He is more than capable of being a very solid center for us, especially with his ability to run the court. He has been very inconsistent, but he can be an important piece of the team, and while not an all-star caliber player, has the talent to be above average.

Not to mention that he can shoot from outside. I suspect that in the Griffin/Blatt Era, being able to hit perimeter jumpers is going to be a big determining factor in whether a particular big man stays or goes. (Sorry, Tristan.)

I dunno about Parsons...

Netting him automatically forces Waiters to the bench. I'd rather that not happen.

I'd prefer to target Horford or Gortat if thats not possible... If Bennett works out, we might be on an OKC path to success in 3-6 years.

gourimoko my friend, the OKC path isn't good enough for a city that hasn't won diddly squat in 50 years. Spurs path or bust!

Not a free agent after opting in, but considering the ties to Blatt and Karasev, and our desperate need for shot blocking, I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on Andrei Kirilenko.

Somehow including him in that Thornton trade, could help us ease the transition for Blatt, and give us someone that's not a corpse to play back up 3.

Same reasons as above, are why I'd be willing to dump Tristan for Mozgov as well.

I loved Parsons when we were thinking Embiid, but not now. I don't see the hurry to deal Dion or relegate him to the bench until we see how they play together. Playing Wiggins at the 3 just makes too much sense especially considering his weak handle. I really don't care if he gets muscled. There are not a lot of 3's that can blow by him, and the physicality at the 3 is overblown. He will be fine.

After Dion's run toward the end of the year putting the team on his back, I just don't think it is wise to deal him yet. We still have him cheap for awhile. Honestly even if Lebron said, "Make the trade and I will sign" I would try to convince him that with our assets those deals can be made at any time. It is not like before when we had no draft picks or flexibility. Let's get this thing going and build on the fly. There is a good possibility we have lots of more trade chips besides DIon and we just don't know it.

Without LeBron, Waiters is our secondary ball-handler, our backup point guard, our second option on offense.... err.. Why would we be getting rid of him? It'd be the worst move the Cavs could make.

Also, I don't see the Leonard-Wiggins comparison at all. Wiggins compares to Paul George far more than Leonard. We shouldn't be molding him after either player though. Wiggins has the potential to learn to be a good ball handler.

I don't want to trade Waiters. You should tell that to Griffin and company. As for the Wiggins/Leonard comparisons, he will ultimately be a Paul George type player, but to start with he is more like a weaker, more athletic Kawhi Leonard.

OKC won 50 games and took the world champs to 7 games in Durant's 3rd year. Nothing about this Cavs disaster up to this point has resembled them. I thought we had given up on that comparison. Without extreme lottery luck this year, we'd be nowhere.

yeah, but what if the Cavs win 50 games this year? Does that extra year mean anything?

Neither would they. DId they not have extreme lottery luck? I think we are going to see a totally different team under Blatt, personally. If Mike Brown can almost get these guys to squeak into the playoffs, surely Blatt + wiggins + another year of development is going to make this team a lot better next year.

Rockets are going to have a difficult decision to make if Parsons signs an offer-sheet early, and Melo drags out his decision until the 2nd week of free agency like it was reported.

Not really, they just made a great pick every single time except for Jeff Green. But every other pick was a legitimate homerun. And they turned it around quickly. First off, I liked the Blatt hiring, he was the guy I wanted. But he is unproven, and I'm of the belief that the roster is a good deal more important than coaching.

I still don't love the roster. Without more moves, we are undersized at 4 out of the 5 starting positions if we go with Bennett and have no shot blocking to help make up for it. We are counting on a guy coming off a disastrous rookie year to be a legitimate starter, our best big man can only play around 20 min a game and even so is still an injury risk. We don't have one big man who is near an all star level, and that just screams trouble to me. With some stellar coaching, I see around 43 wins in the weaker East.

Griffin mentioned directly that the goal was to get bigger, so I'd imagine that will be a priority.
