2014 NFL Free Agency Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: 2014 CLEVELAND BROWNS FREE AGENCY WATCH

TJ Ward, Ben Tate, Eric (and Brooklyn) Decker, keep Mack if possible.

Draft the fuck outta QB, LB, and a WR to bring along.

Re: 2014 CLEVELAND BROWNS FREE AGENCY WATCH

The fact is that we don't even have to make choices. We don't even have to be clever about how the cap situation is handled. We can sign all of our guys this year, take care of all the guys next year, add a couple key FAs, and sign our draft class without being in cap danger. The cap is going up, resigning guys like DQ and Rubin will lower their numbers significantly, TRich penalty money will roll off the books, JT's number drops a couple mil.

Our bigger issue is whether guys don't want to come here, or want out. It's also an issue that we're not out in front of resigning guys long term prior to All-Pro years. Other than that, we're in a really special place with our cap situation.

Adding Byrd and/or Tate: Byrd is a better signing. We need a RB, especially with a possible rookie Qb working his way in. Byrd could very well make the defense special though. A good FS eats desperation plays, buys time for the pass rush, and forces Qb's to play safe. If we add Byrd to what we already have, there's not really anywhere safe you can go with the football.
Putting money into a FA RB, with an offense that makes 1k yd rushers out of absolute nobody's, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. We can afford it, but I don't see it as something that will make us a whole lot better on offense. It's more of a move that makes you appear more credible on paper, imo.

Re: 2014 CLEVELAND BROWNS FREE AGENCY WATCH

I feel good enough about Skrine that we can sign Byrd and Ward.

Find a LB and we're good on D. The D line is set.

Draft QB and WR in 1st

Find a RB in the second (would love Hyde)

Draft a Guard

Re: 2014 CLEVELAND BROWNS FREE AGENCY WATCH

Tough call who I'd rather have between Byrd and Ward.

Ward plays a more premium position, would be cheaper.

Byrd is probably the better all-around player.

99 percent chance you're only going to be able to get one, who are you taking?

Wouldn't care either way - same age, same school... tough call.

Player? Byrd.
If the money flexibility is significant by signing Ward? Then Ward.

Very, very, very cautious of Decker. He did have nice numbers before Manning, basically his 2012/2013 numbers slashed in half (receptions, yards, tds, etc.). I just wonder if he translates to this star power away from Manning (unlikely).

Byrd + Ward + Tate would be a fucking dream come true.

Also, assuming you're kidding with Brooklyn being his wife.

I'm all for Decker. I'm not sure if he's changed, but he's always been good at being gritty and gaining a position advantage over his opposition. Thing that mitigates my enthusiasm for going at him is the fact that it looks like you're going to be able to get one or two in the draft who can play. If they get that 2nd spot solidified, they can start searching for the Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace finds later on. To tell you the truth, I'm not even that hot on Tate. If Byrd is franchised, forget it. Otherwise you try. I say you sign a legit 2nd CB.

Re: 2014 CLEVELAND BROWNS FREE AGENCY WATCH

Honestly? Id rather have G Tate or J Jones than Decker. Think both are more proven than Decker.

If I ever see Mike Lombardi, he's going to get a fist to the fucking chin. This guy just won't stop trying to drill this franchise into the ground. Not even sure why.

I'd take Bart Scott on this team, personally.

Spent time under Pettine, knows the defense well, allows them to groom his eventual replacement with one of the very impressive linebacker prospects this season.

Re: 2014 Cleveland Browns Free Agency Watch

It isn't about Bart Scott... It's about how 10 different rumors have hit the wire since he's been fired. Not only was he incompetent, he's still causing a PR nightmare for this org.

Not sure this it stinks of a Lombardi leaked story. Seems more agent fed, based on the info about the toe injury explaining why he's hanging it up and going to TV.

JMO.

Seeing is how it seems like everyone that leaves for FA turns to shit in the NFL, Ward.

For the record, Grossi just said on the Really Big Show that Buffalo would tag Byrd so that they have leverage in a trade for him. Sounds like the Byrd interest is real.

What's the price for a tag, isn't it two first round picks? What would the point of that be?
