2016-2017 Around The NBA

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
70-8-6 is a better line than Kobe's 81.

Kobe did it while only getting to the line 20 times.

Shooting 60 percent, 7 from 13 from three. He was also a plus 25 on the court. And they got the win.

I think Booker's 70 is overrated, personally.

He was 21 for 40, sure that's efficient, but not unwordly hot. Just 4 from 11 from three, and again, the biggest number that stands out is 26 foul shots. Which is a lot.

You take away his 24 free throw makes, he scored just 46 points (which is still great), you take away Kobe's free throws he stilled scored 63 points. Think about, it Booker scored just 7 more points total than what Kobe did on the actual court not involving free throws, which speaks to how incredible his performance was.

Sure, his assist line looks great but he also turned it over 5 times, too, and was a negative on the court.

But either way, Booker had a hell of night. But I don't think it's even close to Kobe's 81 performance.

I'm gonna change my mind here. Had no idea the Suns were fouling late to try and get Booker more buckets. That's not as impressive.

You gotta be smoking some serious meth to even compare this game to Kobes. 15 points were basically garbage points, they lost by 10 and he was -6. Kobes 60 point games were leaps and bounds better than this.

Did you see my post about 5 minutes later after I found that out?

After further analyzing the game, they did, or he for that matter padded his stats to no avail. But, they also played to not give up, which for young kids should be taught. They are historically a young NBA team.

With that said, I'm happy for the kid, let the kids be great. But I'll talk shit about Westbrook leaving his man for a rebound anyday, and having his big men relinquish their easy garbage rebounds for him.

Don't know if anyone was at and/or paid attention to the Sloan Analytics Conference this year... Among other things, the below paper was presented, which uses SportVU tracking, topic modeling, and a LDA analysis to basically find the points per possession and efficiency number for every NBA play (i.e., a weave).

But more interestingly, it tracks so much data on every play that it shows where the play will usually fall apart and if any player/players are a cause. If/when these guys get picked up by an NBA team then it will totally change the team's defense. Imagine being able to know exactly who to target on the opposing team's offense.

I'd bet this is part of the next revolution in NBA stats. I know Presti from the Thunder and the GM of the Bucks are having conversations with the two guys who wrote this paper.
