2016-2017 Indians Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Most memorable drunk posting night for me was when the Redskins traded up with the Rams to get RG3. I was going on tirades everywhere. Pretty sure my friends wanted to kill me when we went out because I just kept saying "I can't believe they got him, man." Then I put a pizza in a postal service mailbox :chuckle:

Rockies hire Bud Black, another managerial opening down. One step closer to retaining the whole staff.

Have no clue how we still have Sandy

My buddy saw Napoli at the Cleveland airport today, don't know if that means anything or not. He gave him a fistbump at the Chick-fil a LOL...

If we want him to decline then why offer in the first place?

We get a compensatory 1st round pick if he leaves. It also drives down his price on the open market because teams a less likely to want him knowing they'll have to give up their 1st rounder.

It increases the chances of us getting him at a reasonable price while ensuring that we don't lose him for nothing.

Why wouldn't he accept it, then? If he wants more years?

Why wouldn't he accept it, then? If he wants more years?

More years is the name of the game. Prior to this season his market value was 1 year $7 million. He knows it could drop to that (or worse) again, and he's looking to get as much guaranteed money as he can.

$17.2 million is great. However, even if we're talking low ball multi-year offers, he stands to get much more guaranteed money than that.

For example, let's say he plays this year for $17.2, and plays poorly enough to have his value drop back to $7 million.

He ends up making $24.2 million over 2 years. He stands to make more than that even on a discount contract right now.

If we want him to decline then why offer in the first place?

Because it will negatively affect his market value to other teams (draft pick attached), increasing the possibility he comes back on a cheaper deal.

Allen is an easy 1

Zimmer 2, Naquin 3.

Chisenhall and Zimmer is probably a push scenario in right. Though I'm more bullish on Lonnie's D than most, mainly because of an elite arm.

My old man has been a big Lonny supporter for years, I've never been enamored with his game. I see the five tools, I don't see them used effectively. However, my pops is usually correct on these things. I'd personally love to see a sell high on Chisenhall.
