2016-2017 Indians Off-Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why are we already writing Santana off after his contract expires? If he is as good as some say on here, we should be a little more optimistic no?
He has already turned down extension talks and wants to hit FA. That means highest bidder. He also has already give t he Tribe a massive discount for his prime, he needs to go make that cash.

Who is nick goody? Any good?

He's pretty Goody.

Good K rate, but struggles to keep the ball down and can get hit hard. Needs to refine the fastball command and he could develop into a respectable middle inning option to replace Manship.

Well I guess I have to eat my words on Goody, but they did get him for nothing really like we did with Otero last year so I have no qualms whatsoever with this move. Now I feel Armstrong is currently the guy who has the right handed bullpen spot, but having Goody brought in has made the competition deep from the roster for that spot which I hope means our 6th Inning guy should be solid.

Now we have a full 40 man roster and we will likely sign at least one guy to a major league contract so someone is eventually getting released/DFA'd. My guess is leaning towards Baker, but we shall see.

Aguilar.

Agular is the one I think goes IF we sign someone (and that is a big if at this point).

What do you mean a big if? Bro it's still December.

I don't think that the Indians will sign anyone else of major importance. Maybe just a couple of minor league contracts with spring training invites but no one impactful. Hence why I say if as in I don't believe they will spend the money to keep competing. They made their world series now time to make the playoffs again in 5 years.

Also as it sits their committed payroll is at 100M or more. While we would want them to sign Napoli or a replacement for his production there is no money. They are going to trot out the same team minus Nap and Rajai and tell us they are just as good.

I actually completely disagree with this just because it would make no sense to cut our only 1st base on the 40 man roster outside of Santana and whoever we sign. We have 25 pitchers on the 40 man so to me Baker would make the most sense because we can likely get him through waivers since he hasn't pitched above A ball. 1st base for whatever reason is our weakest position in our farm system. I know it's not hard to find someone to play first base, but still cutting our only other player that is trained at first with right handed pop is not a smart move in my mind

At this point where is the money coming from to sign a first baseman with some pop? Also I know a few guys that are big on the Indians prospects and such and they think Brantley is done in the outfield because of the shoulder. There is your first baseman. So you also have a somewhat crowded outfield as well. Brantley is a guarenteed starter (even though I think he is done) that leaves you with Naquin, Guyer, Almonte, Chisenhal and Brantley (whether it is at 1st or OF Brantley is a starter and pencil him in somewhere)

You also have Giovanny Urshela who can play 3rd move Jram to first. You also have Erik Gonzalez, who is out of options I think, and he can play 3rd or first as well.
