2016 WORLD SERIES Game #1 -|- Indians vs. Cubs -|- October 25th, 2016 @ 8:08 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Seems to me like you beat these guys on the inside of the plate rather than by focusing on the outside corners. They tend to crowd, and as long as you can hammer them inside, they get frozen.

Noticed that too, but it seemed like the umpire last night wasn't calling many strikes on the inside so Miller kept hitting the outside corners. BUT, because the Cubs hitters crowded the plate so much, pitches off the plate weren't being called for strikes much either.

Kluber got his K on, I think, because his punchout pitches either blow by you or have a vertical movement. Miller was less successful because his punchout pitch moves laterally, where there was less leniency in the strikezone.

Hopefully the ump tonight is able to account for the plate-crowding Cubs batters better.

Was Tito asked during the presser if Miller is available tonight?

Buck pointed out that Tito used a reliever back to back- can't recall who it was- after a close to 50 pitch night during the WS when he was with the Sox.

I give the Cubs credit. They were very patient against Miller. He thrives on guys checking or going around on balls out of the zone and the Cubs were very patient with him.

He got squeezed on what looked like a few pitches that were right on the corners, but overall credit went to the Cubs for running up his pitch count and not swinging at very many bad balls at all.

Miller was, and he said he's good.

I'd imagine after a season-high in pitches, Tito would hesitate at anything more than an inning out of him.

Either way, whomever doesn't start would be an outstanding trade chip.

I see zero reason to trade either one of them. They've both been dinged up quite a bit over the last few years. Plus, it gives you the ability to keep both of them fresh throughout the season when they are healthy.

I'd hate for one of them to go down (after trading the other) and we end up with Gimenez and Adam Moore catching every day.

Kluber actually has the most lateral movement on his pitches of anyone in the league. The thing with the ump was that he was calling inside to lefties/outside to righties, which isn't really where Miller typically works.

Well, that's a good point. And it's not like we have some major holes elsewhere. On the other hand, both of those guys are certainly starter-quality, so to consign one of them to catching only once or twice a week seems like wasting talent. We can at least see how healthy both of them are to start the season, and see what offers we may get.

That ump gave Lester an obscene outside strike on a K to Guyer.

I actually didn't get to watch the first 3 innings due to reasons I've been made fun of for ad nauseam by @Damage and @Deezus so I didn't see if that outside corner was established before that, but Jesus Christ.

Was that established for Kluber as well?

It was not established that far outside, but the corner had been established. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Guyer strikeout the inning after Lester yelled at the ump, and then had a conversation with him before leaving the field?

Gomes has played under 100 games each of the past 2 years, and Perez had to be rushed back this year just to end up playing 61. It just seems inevitable that we'll need both of them to play 70+ games.

Also, as much as I love what both of them bring to the team, Gomes hasn't hit in since 2014, and Perez is a career .220 hitter. I feel like they probably have more value to us than they do on the trade market.

lol. your signature. savage af

I want to say I put it up right before the playoffs started. You know, to get the good vibes rolling.

Prophetic. I've loved Kluber ever since he broke out, but he's pitching like an animal right now even above what I expected.
